Traizon Byrd Recruiting Update (2019)
Junior shooting lefty Traizon Byrd (PrepHoopsTN #27) looks lean and frankly weak at first glance. Don’t make that mistake.
Standing 6-foot-7 Tennessee Prep Academy Class of 2019 wing Traizon Byrd can be a true terror on the offensive glass to compliment his fluid jumper.
“Crazy athletic,” said Tennessee Prep Academy Head Coach Harold Rayford. “Crazy athletic at 6’7″. He can handle the ball a lot better than Nazair (Holland). He can shoot it and handle it.”
Defensively, Byrd needs to add weight to deny penetration. Still he moves the feet laterally very well. Defense with him depends upon effort, as it does with all young players. When he invests he can be a nuisance.
With his narrow physique he doesn’t rely provide any deterant to sliding defenders. The defenders eagerly bash into him or easily sidestep the Byrd screen.
Because Traizon Byrd is such a great leaper and finisher in traffic he truly needs to develop that musculature to dominate defenders fully.
With Tennessee Prep Academy Traizon Byrd moves well off the ball. He floats around the arc and switches sides along the baseline. Byrd’s major weakness on the offensive end is his inability to set a formidable high screen.
Congratulations to Class of 2019 (6’7/ Wing) Traizon Byrd on receiving an offer from Tennessee State University @CoachRayford @TraizonP2P @TSUTigersMBB pic.twitter.com/tMU2o52flY

The Tigers of Tennessee State are re-shuffling their roster after Head Coach Dana Ford accepted the Missouri State head coaching position. The Tigers did offer, but another OVC team (Tennessee Tech) is interested, as well.
Florida International University offered during the winter.
“I think he had a 29 point game against Aspire (Academy),” said Coach Rayford. “He had another big game against Iggy and Orangeville Prep. He had 31 against them. He showed some promise this year. This is his first time playing time playing school basketball.”
Traizon Byrd moved to Memphis and Tennessee Prep Academy from Huntsville, Alabama.
“He is going to be a sleeper.”
