Prospect Update: 2021 PG Tony Farrar looks to become a facilitator
Tony Farrar can be considered as a combo guard, with special offensive talents, but he’s ready to accept a new role heading into his sophomore season.
For Hamilton Heights Christian Academy this upcoming season, Farrar will look to make an impact creating scoring opportunities for his teammates instead of looking to lead the team in scoring. At 6-foot, Farrar has all of the right tools to switch gears.
He can score from different areas of the court, and makes smart decisions with the basketball. Yet, Farrar doesn’t have any offers heading into his sophomore season, which drives him each day to become a better guard than he was the day before.
Becoming an all-around guard is something Farrar can benefit from.
“The biggest thing I worked on over the summer was being more of a point guard instead of a scorer,” Farrar said. “I can definitely score the basketball, but I have to create for others. I need to penetrate the gaps, kick it out, and find the open man.”
As of right now, Farrar, who has a 6-3 wing span, will be a solid No. 2 option at point guard for the Hawks this upcoming season, coming off the bench behind 2020 point guard Jordan Rawls, another dynamic guard with explosiveness on the offensive end.
Playing behind Rawls, 6-0, 160, could be a good thing for Farrar, who can continue to get a glimpse of what it takes to be a starting point guard. Farrar already has great work ethics as pushes himself into the gym each day, even if he doesn’t feel like going there. There are no off days in basketball. When the season is over, prospects still have to be in the gym, that’s only if they want to improve.
“It’s amazing. It’s a blessing definitely,” Farrar said about playing alongside Rawls. “He’s amazing. He’s a really nice player. His personality is really cool, too. We’re definitely going to push each year this season to get better. I can learn a lot.”
Before Farrar’s sophomore season is up, hopefully Rawls can help him get the attention of college coaches. Rawls has been getting the attention of Division 1 programs. He currently has offers from Arkansas State, Canisius, Florida Atlantic, Hofstra, and Massachusetts.
