Continue ReadingThe first time we got the opportunity to get a good look at Lavar Batts was at the NC Top 80 camp following his freshman year of High School. At the time he seemed to have a lot of the tools that you want in a guard prospect such as: speed, length, athleticism etc. but his jump shot was still somewhat of a question mark. As time went on he continued to stay in the gym and perfect his craft especially working on his jump shot, particularly his shooting form. Going into his Junior Season you could clearly see the difference in the way he was shooting the ball and how it was affecting his field goal percentage in a positive way. During the high school season he would play a huge role in helping J.M Robinson capture the 3A championship and keeping that same winning mentality by leading CP3 to one of the best regular season records in the EYBL. Now after a large amount of schools have recruited him, he announced this week that he has cut his list down to a final two: VCU and Clemson University. For the fans of both schools that may be asking what Lavar can bring to the program, we will take a moment to fill you in.
What does he bring to a College program?
First of all, he brings a winners mentality, throughout his high school years and even during the summer the teams that he plays with win and compete for some form of championships. Which leads us to our second attribute about Lavar we love and that is his competiveness, he’s a young man that doesn’t back down from a challenge and seems to perform better when the stakes are higher. Last but not least he’s going to bring some swagger to the program, he is a fundamentally sound player but also has some flair to his game. So fans shouldn’t be surprised to see some smooth behind the back passes or high flying dunks that will make them leave their seats. So as we wait until his decision is announced we look forward to see where he is going to end up taking his talents over the next few years and the fans at both Clemson and VCU should be doing the same.
