In the past, Nate contributed to the Prep Hoops Ohio network while attending Ohio State University, and is now assisting with coverage in Northern Virginia/D.C. Before moving to Virginia, Nate was a sports reporter for MassLive.com in Springfield, Massachusetts, covering high school sports in Western Massachusetts. He can still be found at your local park looking for a pickup game.

    Tuesday night high school hoops in Northern Virginia included a matchup between Annandale (4-4) and Washington Lee (5-3). Washington-Lee took the victory winning by a final score of 69-50.

    Fairfax (7-1) is one of the top teams in Northern Virginia, and one of the main contributors to their success is the junior wingman, Danial Mbangue. Standing at 6-foot-4, Mbangue plays both the two and three positions and dabbles with point guard responsibilities as well.

    The left-handed Walker can play above the rim and can convert jump shots as well. This year, he has primarily taken on the point guard responsibilities, but it has not limited his ability to put the ball in the basket. Walker has averaged around 19 points a game through the first month of the season.

    Prospect Spotlight: Stacey Terry (2019)

    When Stacey Terry transferred into Battlefield High as a junior, he was known for being a pass-first guard – setting up his teammates for easy buckets. He was splitting time with the previous point guard as he developed at the varsity level. Following the season, he ran with Higher Level through the AAU circuit and worked on becoming more of a scoring threat. Terry is a senior now, and the work has paid off.

    What We Learned: McLean vs. Marshall

    Marshall hosted McLean, Tuesday evening and when the final buzzer sounded, it was advantage, McLean. The Highlanders took the 56-48 victory to move to 2-2 on the season while Marshall falls to 1-3. The early December match was a good test for both teams.

    Northern Virginia hoops featured a Monday night showdown between Forest Park (0-2) and Battlefield (4-1). Although Forest Park made a run towards the end of the game, Battlefield held on to win, 74-71.

    Moses Nuangki is heading into final season at Carlisle this winter and has been receiving interest from multiple college programs. At 6-foot-3, he has plenty of length to be a solid contributor at the two-guard position. Following a summer full of AAU tournaments, college elite camps and a handful of showcases, the rising senior landed an offer from Bluefield College.
