Black Canyon Top 3
Cortez High School – The Colts always have a lot of talent on their roster and will look to take the Black Canyon region title in a region that is very difficult to determine the favorite. With Cortez’s athleticism, talent, and winning tradition; they look to have the best chance at taking the crown. However, as stated earlier, this region is wide open as many of the teams are moving up to the 4A realm and many teams are replacing key pieces that were lost last season.
Dysart High School – Speaking of schools who will look to replace as a means of being successful, look no further than Dysart High School. Despite a successful year last season, the group will be without talented and NCAA Division-I prospect Malik Ondigo who will be playing prep school basketball this year. That will be a huge whole to fill as he was the centerpiece for this team and the group last a number of other seniors. With that said, look for the returners in this group like Leon Chavez to lead the way now that the big man is gone.
Combs High School – After a deep run that was led by 2015 Carter Aby, Combs struggled to find ways to win with a young group. Good news for the team is that the majority of the team will be back this upcoming year, and they will look to compete at a high level. The team will be led by what will be a three year starter Clayten McCarthy who will do his best reenactment of Aby as he will fill up the stat sheet in a hurry. In addition to McCarthy, the group will rely heavily on 2018 shooting guard Brian Tucker. Tucker is huge for this team as he will stretch the floor as he shoots the basketball at a high rate.
Black Canyon Best of the Rest
Coronado High School – Coronado High School has lost some talented prospects over the last couple of years, but they will look to compete in this region with the assistance of 2017 Jay Vanderjagt.
