When we last spoke with the 6-foot-1 senior he had yet to hear from any college coaches. But after a productive summer on the 17U circuit he was able to pick up an offer, and is hearing from at least one other area program.
His lone offer is from NAIA Concordia (MI), and has one school showing what he calls “major interest” in him and that’s Spring Arbor.
Woods has been pleased with his move from Saginaw Heritage to Saginaw High, and is optimistic that he’ll taje advantage of the opportunity to showcase himself in front of several coaches over the next six months.
“Being recruited is a priority of mine, my high school coach is having college coaches in the gym, and all I have to do is play well,” said Woods.
“Going to Saginaw High, I know that there will always be coaches around. Knowing the history of the school, and it’s tradition of producing good point guards and players, they (college coaches) will be around. I just have to do my part and play well, and people will see.”
Michigan’s 51st-ranked 2017, Woods says during the offseason while playing with Tri-City Heat he was able to develop into a more complete floor general.
“I really turned myself into a complete point guard, being able to control the team, control the pace, and get everyone involved,” he said. “I‘m really able to guard the point guard and the shooting guard defensively, and score at a high rate now.”
As he gets set for his senior season at Saginaw, Woods is eager to help his team make it all the way to East Lansing.
“My role will be knocking down shots, handling the ball, getting to the basket, and playing great defense,” said Woods. “My goals for the year are to win districts, regionals, sectionals, and make it to the Breslin (Center).”
