Kentucky’s 31st-ranked 2017, Williams mentioned his recruitment had been slow, but seems pleased with the recent surge in interest.
“In the past two weeks a couple colleges have contacted me; Kentucky State, Ohio University, Ball State, University of California San Diego did a couple weeks ago, Western Kentucky, IUPUI, and then a few others,” he said.
“My first two years were kind of slow, and I started to pick it up a little more this past year I thought.”
Still without an offer to speak of, Williams remains optimistic that he’ll have college options by the end of his senior season.
“I do feel that as soon as the first offer does come, then others will jump on,” said Williams. “I think others have been holding back a bit just to see how everything is going to go.”
A versatile threat with a diverse skill-set, Williams says his best strength as a player is being able to play several positions.
“I think my best attribute is the fact that I’m able to play multiple positions, and depending on who is guarding me is where I’ll typically play,” he said.
“I’m trying to improve more on my ball-handling, just so I can grow into more of a guard and that will help my all-around game.”
As he gets set for his senior season with the Eagles, Williams says it’s his leadership that he’ll key in on.
“We lost a few people and I’ll have to step up and be a leader because so many people look up to me. We have a fairly young team and some people have not experienced as much variety as guys we’ve had in the past,” he said.
“I want to hold our team together. In the past we’ve had more team bonding issues than anything and that’s been our biggest downfall. So this year I want to be that leader that we need, and keep everyone together and on the same page.”
