Lansing Christian shooting guard Matthew Havey tells PHMI that he currently has two Division III schools that have spots for him if he chooses.
But the 6-foot-1 sharpshooter is also hearing from several other schools, and mentioned that playing at the highest level is a priority for him.
“I have Division III spots, at Alma and Kalamazoo. And then Albion has really been talking to me, and University of Chicago really likes me,” said Havey.
“And then Heidelberg, St. Francis, IPFW actually just contacted me and I went to their elite camp and that was cool…and then William & Mary has shown interest.”
Other schools he said are “talking to me pretty heavily” are Hillsdale and Augustana. And he mentioned Aquinas and Concordia as well.
Still with his entire senior season left to showcase himself, Havey said ideally he would make a college decision before the season starts, but will wait if necessary.
“Hopefully before the season (I can decide), but you never know,” he said. “I’m just trying to play at the highest level I can, and I’m really just looking for a right fit. And obviously the education is really important too.”
Right now, though, he’s focusing on his forthcoming senior season with the Pilgrims — he averaged 19 points per game last season as a junior.
“I’m really excited, we got a new coach and I really like him. We also just got three transfers, two of them are 6-foot-5, so that’s really positive,” said Havey. “I just want to win this year, I don’t really care how we do it, I just want to win.”
