As we noted Friday, Javonte Smart (6’4 PG, Scotlandville, 2018) and Josh Anderson (6’5 G, Madison Prep, 2017) were at the Elite 24 where they were able to play on national television, Smart competed in the dunk contest the night before. Mitchell Robinson (6’11 PF/C, Chalmette, 2017) headed to the Bahama’s with on ‘The Trip’ to play against a Bahamian Select Team.
LSUA held their team camp and word was there was some real talent on the court but even better mentalities. As one of the top NAIA schools in the nation, it’ll be interesting to see which prospects earned an offer or want to play with that pressure. Northwestern State has their team camp on Saturday.
There were multiple commitments over the weekend. Three different prospects ranked in our top 20 in 2017 chose where they will attend college and that means six of the top 20 are now committed with a few more likely to decide in the coming weeks.
Jordan Foster (6’9 PF/C, Comeaux) made the decision Saturday to commit to Lamar. The lefty be a defensive anchor with an ever improving offense game. He’s comfortable in most settings and with a little development could become a real difference maker at that level.
On Sunday there were two different commitments. Joseph Thompson (6’9 F, Bonnabel) decided to commit to South Alabama where 2016 shooter Herbert McGee (6’2 SG, Riverside) will be a freshman and McGee’s former teammate Jordan Andrews transferred to. His versatility will be a huge asset for South Alabama. He is equally comfortable with or without the ball on the wing or in the post.
Casey Jones Jr. (5’11 G, Wossman) parlayed a monster season and LHSAA tournament into a Northwestern State offer and made his decision official last night. He is a high IQ basketball player with an impressive resume in the classroom. On the court he can lead a team or be a scorer and always defends at a high level.
Camp is fully on for this Sunday, the 28th, and registration is still open for a waiting list and potential spot. We look forward to seeing some talent on the court next Sunday and keep in mind it’s open for anyone to come watch and support the young student athletes.
