The post players in the class of 2018 are definitely the weakness of this group. There isn’t a dominant star or a lot of depth. This is a group that college coaches that are smart and evaluate them properly over the next couple years could find value however with guys that fit their system.
At the power forward position it is led by Messiah Jones (Simeon). The Meanstreets four man is a long and angular lefty that plays bigger than his 6’5” height by using his length and elite athleticism. Rebounds well around the hoop and blocks shots. Efficient scorer around the hoop. Curie’s twin towers Tyree and Treavon Martin are right behind him with their length, athleticism, and developing offensive games. Considerable upside with both prospects. Tamell Pearson (Morgan Park) burst onto the scene in the spring with his play for the Mac Irvin Fire. Raekwon Drake (Orr) and Jordan Boyd (St. Joseph’s) are a pair of productive bigs that are slightly undersized. A couple other four men that have emerged are Jalen Shaw (Larkin) and Orlando Allen (Thornton). Each are upside prospects that are still learning what type of players they are going to be.
The center position is even thinner depth wise than the power forward spot. There are four guys that we think have the potential to be D1 or D2 prospects. That group is pushed at the top by Isa McGuire (Lindbloom). Long and lanky big man that has defensive potential as a shot blocker and potential, but is not refined. Mick Sullivan (Marimon Academy), Ryan Davis (Conant), and Ben Wolfe (Marian Central Catholic) are each big bodied back to the basket posts that can score on the block with their physicality.
