Thoughts On The Team: This wasn’t the typical Indiana Elite team we have been accustomed to but they did do well enough in the early part of the season to warrant a 6-2 record. However, they lost two of their best players when Justin Thomas and Desmond Bane made commitments and moved onto college.
Although, during the stretch run in the Gauntlet Final, you saw a couple guys step up like Jermaine Couisnard and Michael Ertel. Mike came through with 17 points in the first game of the Finals in South Carolina. Couisnard had back to back 14 point games where he shot 11/20 from the field to start Gauntlet Finals.
Top Performers: Jermaine Couisnard & Michael Ertel
Jermaine Couisnard proved himself more this summer than he had in his career to this point. He had multiple games with big stat lines. 16 and 4, 15 and 5, he had plenty of those games scattered throughout. He averaged 9.3 points and 3.8 boards for the year. His three-point shooting was solid as well with 16-52 for 30.8%. He is inline to continue his development now at East Chicago.
Michael Ertel was another really impressive player for Indiana Elite. He was as consistent a player as you could ask for even though early on he wasn’t getting a ton of scoring opportunities. However, once the 2016 players moved on, he was able to slide into some more minutes and more scoring. He only had a pair of double-digit scoring games before Las Vegas but once there, he went off. Ertel scored 52 points in the final three games and dished out 4.0 assists per game. He’s got a lot of game and hopefully his stock will increase this Fall.
