PF Austin Katstra | Team Richmond-Garner Road
Despite being listed at about 6-foot-6, Austin Katstra plays like he’s at least 6-foot-8. He’s a very sneaky athlete who can absolutely jump out of the gym. Katstra is also a workhorse, who does his due diligence on the glass. Katstra’s perimeter skills have improved, and he’s getting more and more comfortable facing up and attacking off the bounce. A capable threat off the catch from three point range, Katstra can efficiently finish with either hand around the basket in traffic. He positions himself well defensively, and contests shots at a high level.
SG/SF Terrence Whitfield | River City Reign
Athleticism is Terrence Whitfield’s strong suit. Whitfield is a big time football recruit who has started to put it all together on the hardwood. Defensively, he exhibits tremendous potential as a lockdown on-ball ace. He’s got quick feet, active hands, and great leaping ability. Whitfield rebounds well out of his position. He knows how to space the floor, and fill the lanes correctly in the open court where he can finish above the rim. Whitfield’s perimeter jump shot has developed. He’s very comfortable knocking down the 3 ball from the catch, and does a good job attacking closeouts and converting in the lane.
PF Nana Opoku | Team Loaded VA 16U
Nana Opoku has added some much-needed bulk since the high school season. He hasn’t sacrificed his mobility, though. The long-limbed 6-foot-7 post is an instinctive shot blocker who demonstrates great timing and a high work rate. Opoku attacks the glass with purpose, and uses his strong hands to secure the ball in traffic. A solid outlet passer, Opoku makes strong rim runs in transition. His fundamentals have improved, and he keeps the ball high when scoring off a put back. His mid range jumper is accurate, and he’s even getting comfortable hitting a 3 if left open.
PF Michael Barfield-Owens | BWSL WAWG
One of the most productive players in the state, Michael Barfield-Owens is a threat for a double-double just about each time he hits the court. He’s a tenacious rebounder who does work on both ends of the glass. Owens is a crafty finisher around the rim who can absorb contact with relative ease. He’s an effective jump shooter from the catch, and can stretch the floor out to the 3 point arc. His skill set is underrated, and he’s got some ability to make plays with the ball in his hands.
SG/SF Jamie Pasha | Team Takeover Orange
Jamie Pasha is a high IQ wing who makes plays on both ends of the court. He’s a very good jump shooter who has the ability to easily make 4 or more threes in a contest when hot. Pasha has a great motor and does a good job boxing out, crashing the offensive glass and rebounding. At 6-foot-5, he’s got the quickness to defend on the perimeter and the size to be effective in the paint. His passing ability is often overlooked, but Pasha does a great job getting his teammates involved and playing within the flow of the offense. He’s a sneaky athlete who likes to run the floor and play finish above the rim.
