Continue ReadingDespite losing two of their go-to guards on the perimeter to bigger programs, the premier program in the Roanoke area has still had a solid start to their summer campaign. Led by some under-the-radar players in the smaller markets in the western part of the state, Spectrum 16U won two tournaments they hosted earlier this season and came one game away from the finals at the Phenom Hoops Spring Fest in their first live period event. A team that usually gets better moving forward, be sure to keep an eye out for them as they usually find ways to compete against better and more athletic teams with teamwork, coaching and execution. Here’s a quick recap of Spectrum 16U’s summer so far.
Organization Director: Shawn Goode
Head Coach: Gary Wheeler
Spring Record: 15-7
Best Finishes: Two Championships at Spectrum; Final Four of Phenom Hoops Spring Fest
Key Wins: MD Defenders, TNBA South, Save Sports, RI Elite, VA All Stars 17U
Key Losses: Team Loaded VA, Team Loaded 757, BWSL Chiz, Upward Stars, D1SA
Standout Contributors: Chris Rogers: “Has had a solid spring holding down the PG position. Sees the floor very well and has an above average shot from three.”
Shey Webb: “After missing a month with a knee injury Shey has come back very strong for us. He’s a versatile player that plays and guards multiple positions for us.”
JR Greene: “6’6” big has shown that he can step up and play big against big teams. Led us with a double-double in a close loss against Boo Williams in Hampton.”
Noah Atwood: “Noah has been the glue guy for us this summer. He’s a very good shooter from deep and an underrated defender on the perimeter.”
'18 Chris Rogers has done well at the lead guard spot for Spectrum 16U. Handling pressure and making some nice pocket passes. #HGJamFest

Cole Meadows has been aggressive offensively for Spectrum 16U. The strong 6'3" wing is a good paint getter, & has shown range on his jumper.
