As the recruiting season for many colleges has come to a close, we want to take a look back at the local division three schools and how they recruited Virginia. With the ODAC and CAC heavily represented in the state, two of the conferences many consider among the best in division three, the state of VA is heavily recruited by a number of schools. Many of the kids who are playing division three in VA were recruited by multiple schools in these conferences, and all of them landed some kind of gem in the process. Today, we’ll take a look at the Randolph-Macon class as they add three local studs to an already young group who improved with experience last year.
Record Last Season: 13-14
Incoming VA Recruits: Austin Gray (Richmond Christian), Korey Turner (Amelia Academy), David Milton (Liberty – Bealton)
After undergoing a coaching change last summer, a young Randolph-Macon team had their ups and downs last season, but as the season went on they found their groove and showed flashes that they have a bright future ahead of them. One of the players that got it going for them late was 6’4” Grayson Midulla, their top recruit from the 2015 class who was a stud at Glen Allen and led the ODAC in 3 point shooting percentage as just a freshman.
Looking forward, Macon looks to continue their momentum, and do so by continuing their ways of locking down top talent in the Richmond area. Their pair of local recruits, Korey Turner and Austin Gray, along with a sleeper in David Milton from the Culpeper area should contribute to their already solid foundation.
Turner, who was a two time First Team All VISAA Division 3 selection, brings experience and a winning background to RMC as they look to restore their own. A steady PG with a high IQ, Turner has been known to be streaky, but when he’s on he’s going to win you some basketball games. He can both score and facilitate, is good in transition and half court sets and loves to have the basketball in his hands with the game on the line.
Gray gives Macon a valuable piece in the ODAC, a true big man. At 6’8” with good hands and feet, there won’t be many players in the conference that can match up with the size and skill of Gray. He was originally a reclass to the 2017 class, but he decided to graduate with his original 2016 class and attend the local school at RMC.
They rounded out their in state class by getting a sleeper in 6’3” athletic wing David Milton of Liberty-Bealton. A versatile defender that can guard any position on the perimeter, Milton’s also a big finisher in transition and a deadly scorer off the bounce in the midrange.
With a solid mix of size, skill and athleticism in this class to add to an already young core, the new Macon staff is off to a good start as they look to build their program back to the status it was once at.
