As the recruiting season for many colleges has come to a close, we want to take a look back at the local division three schools and how they recruited Virginia. With the ODAC and CAC heavily represented in the state, two of the conferences many consider among the best in division three, the state of VA is heavily recruited by a number of schools. Many of the kids who are playing division three in VA were recruited by multiple schools in these conferences, and all of them landed some kind of gem in the process. Today, we look at Hamden-Sydney College in Farmville and what the four VA recruits they brought in will bring to the program.
Record Last Season: 17-10
Incoming VA Recruits: Kevin Quinn (VES), Chaise Johnson (Steward School), Michael Duncan (Williamsburg Christian), Tony Revis (Brunswick Academy)
One of the most prestigious programs in the ODAC, Hampden-Sydney continues to find ways to compete with the top programs despite being a prestigious college that sticks to their guns as an elite academic school. Not to mention, they’re also an all boys school that isn’t cheap to attend either.
Still, the Tigers brought in a solid group from Virginia, and have five more recruits coming in from outside of the state. In the state, they landed their top target of the class in VES wing Kevin Quinn, a 6’4” guard with a one of the smoothest jumpers in the state. He was pivotal in the the state championship run by VES, and if he plays the way he did down the stretch he’ll have a chance to get early playing time for a team that needs a shooter.
Joining Quinn in the backcourt is 5’8” point guard Chaise Johnson, who had a phenomenal career at Steward School and is a big reason that they have become relevant in the VISAA. Johnson is a tough three-level scorer that can play both on and off the basketball, and surpassed his coach Jamiel Allen, a former ODAC star at Roanoke College, as the school’s all-time leading scorer.
With two scoring guards under their belt, the Tigers also brought in some toughness and size in 6’2” Williamsburg Christian guard Michael Duncan and 6’5” Brunswick Academy forward Tony Revis. Duncan, who’s older brother is in the rotation already at HSC, is a two-sport athlete that makes an impact with his athleticism on both ends, slashing to the basket and often guarding the best player on the other team. Revis is a sleeper at the forward spot that can guard multiple position, step out and hit the 18 footer and has solid hands and feet in the post.
If the five other recruits the Tigers landed are as good as the group they got in VA, they should continue to trend upward in one of the nation’s top conferences.
