The theme with the power forwards in the class of 2018 is athletic, active, and undersized. You see it throughout the group. It is headlined still by Messiah Jones (Simeon). The 6’5” lefty plays with a motor, runs the floor, and fights on the glass. Flashes face up skill which could take his game to the next level. Defensively blocks shots. The brother duo of Tyree Martin (Curie) and Treavon Martin (Curie) follow up Jones. They have significant upside with their length, defensive ability both blocking shots and rebounding, as well as flashing scoring potential. Other possible D1 prospects include Raekwon Drake (Orr), Jordan Boyd (St. Joseph’s), Tamell Pearson (Morgan Park), Orlando Allen (Thornton), Jalen Shaw (Larkin), Jordan Morris (Proviso East), and Chris Johnson (Naperville North).
The center position lacks depth and star power at this stage. Isa Maguire (Lindbloom) has emerged as the top guy at this stage. The 6’7” Lindbloom center is long, lanky, and projectable. He flashes scoring potential and defensive ability. Once he adds strength and consistency he should be good to go. Mick Sullivan (Marimon Academy), Chinedu Okanu (TF South), Ryan Davis (Conant), and Jackson Marcotte (Mt. Carmel) are all worth monitoring going forward.
