“Obviously the opportunity to be a part of the hometown Big 10 program was a big reason for my decision,” Brady said today. “I grew up watching the Gophs all the time and being a part of it now is great.”
Rudrud was excited about the Gopher coaching staff after meeting them on a recent visit to campus.
“Ben Johnson is great,” said Rudrud. “Richard Pitino was good too when we met. They’ve been honest with me and obviously as a walk on it’s a little bit different than a scholarship and I know what’s expected of me and I’m excited about it.”
That is exactly the attitude a walk-on needs to have and Minnesota has a history of Minnesota born walk-on players having big roles including Dusty Rychart, Jeff Hagen, Brent Lawson, Jamal Abu-Shamala, Travis Busch, and most recently Stephon Sharp.
“It was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. I always wanted to be a Gopher and the mix of academics and basketball at the U is great.”
Brady is coming off a senior year where he took his team to the state tournament as the leader in rebounding, assists, steals, and he was the second leading scorer at Eden Prairie. Brady put up 30 points in his final high school game (vs Osseo in the state tournament).
