The 6-2 guard took home MVP honors with a game-high 27 points, including a fadeaway, buzzer-beating 3-pointer that gave his squad a 100-97 victory.
“On that last play, someone on the bench said, ‘Jervae is going to hit the last shot,’ Robinson said. “And then someone else said ‘Vae’s not nice.’ So I was feeling it. My teammates got me the ball … it was a tough shot but I’m just happy it went down.”
Robinson said after the game that he has yet to receive an offer, but he remains in communication with schools such as the University of Denver and Coastal Carolina. The Overland senior has been training with Nick Graham of the Chauncey Billups D1 facility to work on his jump shot and change-of-pace ability, both of which were on full display Friday night.
Robinson’s team was down by nearly 20 in the first half before he nearly single-handedly erased that deficit in his return off the bench. Robinson showed an advanced ability to collapse a defense with his impressive first step as well as that improved jumper. While he plays faster than most on the court, he remains a disciplined decision-maker, using his enhanced ability to get around a defender to facilitate others as often as he finishes around the rim.
“I was just trying to work on my game and be aggressive,” Robinson said. “Coach said he wanted to switch the lineups so we could finish. I knew he saw the way the game was going, and I knew we needed some buckets.”
From what he showed Friday and during Overland’s most recent Class 5A state championship run, it’s hard to believe that Robinson couldn’t be a spark plug in the backcourt for a program somewhere. And until that opportunity arrises, he’s staying the course.
“I’ve been in the gym working on a lot of stuff,” Robinson said. “I’m just trying to be patient right now and hopefully something works out for me.”
