We will first be previewing a club’s top teams in those given age groups and will then circle back to their other teams. Today: Team Richmond-Garner Road 17U Elite
Organized by Program Directors Arnold Henderson and Del Harris, Team Richmond was founded in 2001 and has developed a strong reputation among the premier programs not just in Richmond, but in all of Virginia.
Last December, Raleigh, N.C.-based Garner Road Basketball Club joined forces with Team Richmond AAU to become Team-Richmond-Garner Road. As a result of this alliance, the “new-look” Team Richmond Garner Road organization has become an Adidas sponsored team, and will be featured in the Gauntlet Series. Below is a preview of the 17U Elite Team.

“TRGR 17 Elite’s team goal is to play together, be fundamentally sound and defend. Over the summer, we focus on getting better and becoming a better player heading into the upcoming high school season. This team is very unselfish and they understand how to play for each other. When we do this, all individual player goals will come, but it’s always team first!”
“As head coach, I was blessed to coach Team Richmond’s 2004 team which had 8 division I players. If this team remains humble and hungry as they are now, they have the potential to be better.” -Coach Del Harris

Players to Watch
DeAndre Thomas: At 6’4″, Thomas brings a great deal of athleticism & physicality as a lead guard. With his first offer recently coming from Samford, look for the sophomore’s recruitment to steadily expand as he continues to improve this spring and summer.

Austin Kastra: The bouncy, 6’6″ forward is an absolute workhorse who exhibits solid footwork and touch around the rim. While he’s yet to receive his first offer, given his high motor and productivity in conjunction with his sneaky athleticism, Katstra’s recruitment should see a boost on the Adidas Gauntlet.

Jayden Nixon: Jayden is an athletic wing who exhibits a very solid all-around skill set. He’s got great length and quickness, which alongside his instincts make him a very solid defensive presence. Look for the high IQ wing to be among the biggest stock boosters on this roster.
