FIRST TEAM
Player of the Year: Josh Van Lingen, Western Christian (2016)
Stats: 17.8 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 2.6 blocks, 63.8 FG%
The Dordt commit helped lead Western Christian to their eighth state title, averaging a double-double, being a force on the defensive end and highly efficient on the offensive side of the ball. The 6’7″ forward is a steal at the next level with great feet and touch around the rim.
Kolin Schulte, Anamosa (2016)
Stats: 21.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 2.4 steals, 50.9 FG%, 42.4 3P%
Schulte’s all-around offensive ability helped carry the Blue Raiders to their first state-sanctioned state tournament appearance. A marksman from the perimeter, he shot the ball at a high clip and also has the ability to put the ball on the floor and get to the rim, where he’s a threat to either finish or dish to a teammate. It was a sterling year from the senior guard.
Devin Green, Cascade (2016)
Stats: 20.2 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.7 blocks, 60.9 FG%, 70.9 FT%
The Sioux Falls commit finished a great career with a dominant week at the state tournament, even outplaying Van Lingen in the championship game. An efficient, slightly undersized, big man, Green pairs fantastic footwork and strength with soft touch around the rim and the ability to shoot from the free-throw line and in. A high IQ player, he’s very good on both ends of the floor.
Levi Jungling, Pella Christian (2017)
Stats: 19.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 46.8 FG%, 40.1 3P%, 72.6 FT%
A dazzling point guard, Jungling has complete control of the game with the ball in his hands, displaying outstanding floor vision and passing ability along with the ability to take over a game by scoring. He’s able to get to the rim at will, finishes well and can stretch the floor from the arc.
Jaylan White, Interstate 35 (2016)
Stats: 25.6 points, 2.6 rebounds, 8.2 assists, 6.2 assist-to-turnover ratio, 5.9 steals, 54.7 FG%, 41.9 3P%
White’s sensational career ended with another ridiculous statistical season. He ranked third in the class in scoring, second in assists and led the class in steals. He posted an amazing 6.2-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio and was highly efficient from the floor, helping lead the Roadrunners to one of their most successful seasons.
SECOND TEAM
Keaton Van Soelen, Des Moines Christian (2016)
Stats: 17.3 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.3 blocks, 55.8 FG%, 81.1 FT%
A slender wing with the ability to score from anywhere on the floor, the Air Force commit is an athletic force who can dominate on either end of the floor. He followed up a big summer with a very good high school season, helping lead the Lions to the state tournament.
Jay Small, Hinton (2017)
Stats: 25.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, 6.3 assists, 46.6 FG%, 37.3 3P%, 77.0 FT%
After a great summer with Omaha Elite led to his first Division I offer, Small followed it up with a big-time scoring season, ranking second in the class in that category. He also chipped in six rebounds and six assists, displaying his all-around ability.
Granger Kingland, Lake Mills (2016)
Stats: 27.3 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 2.3 steals, 56.8 FG%, 43.8 3P%, 86.7 FT%
The highest scorer in the state, Kingland was actually less efficient than he was as a junior, a terrifying thought. With the ability to score from anywhere on the floor, he was one of the state’s best shooters.
Collin Hill, South Hamilton (2017)
Stats: 21.1 points, 10.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 53.6 FG%
One of the top players in the 2017 class, Hill rebounded very nicely after missing his sophomore season with a broken leg. One of a select few to average a double-double, he’s got a versatile inside-out game, great length and good ball skills. He’s in line for a big summer.
Matt Dentlinger, Carroll Kuemper (2017)
Stats: 18.4 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.9 blocks, 57.2 FG%, 73.2 FT%
Another one of the top players in the 2017 class, Dentlinger displayed his defensive prowess in Kuemper’s quarterfinal loss to Western Christian, blocking seven shots. A 6’7″ forward with the ability to score inside or spread the floor, Dentlinger is another player who is in for a big summer, especially with his interior presence on the defensive end of the floor.
THIRD TEAM
Logan Gilman, PCM, Monroe (2016)
Stats: 21.2 points, 7.6 rebounds, 46.8 FG%, 40.8 3P%
The Grand View commit led the Mustangs in nearly every category. He’s an efficient force on the offensive end, with the ability to score at all three levels.
Ben Juhl, Des Moines Christian (2017)
Stats: 18.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, 60.3 FG%, 45.3 3P%, 79.5 FT%
A high-scoring lefty guard, Juhl was highly efficient in his scoring, shooting above 60% from the floor. He’s able to get to the rim at will, finishes well in traffic and has a smooth stroke from the perimeter.
Nolan Chapman, Treynor (2016)
Stats: 18.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.2 steals
Chapman’s ascent to stardom started in the 2015 state tournament, and he carried that into this season. A high-level scoring guard, he’s very good at getting to the rim, can shoot from the arc and proved to be a very good defensive player as well.
Marcus Winterfeld, Sioux Center (2016)
Stats: 17.1 points, 10.6 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.7 blocks, 50.2 FG%
Another Dordt commit, Winterfeld averaged a double-double on the season and led the Warriors in a majority of categories. An athletic wing, he’s very good attacking the rim with the ability to finish either through contact or above the rim.
Colin Squiers, Dyersville Beckman (2016)
Stats: 19.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.1 steals, 55.6 FG%, 50.7 3P%, 81.3 FT%
One of the state’s premier shooters, Squiers lit it up from behind the arc, shooting better than 50% from deep. The high-scoring guard will continue his career at Briar Cliff.
