Mississippi State signee Lamar Peters’ Career Highlights (Video)
The prep career of Lamar Peters came to a close in early march during the LHSAA playoffs but a new chapter is soon to be written in the SEC. Landry-Walker’s 6-foot-1, 170-pound guard is set to join Mississippi State after signing with the Bulldogs in November and Peters will be in range as soon as he steps on the Starkville campus.
A consensus 4-star prospect, Peters can score with the best of them and the moniker “Parking Lot Peters” has stuck for a reason. His most recent explosion came against Chalmette January 26 when he dropped 40 points including 12 3-pointers and he also went went 10-of-18 from 3-point range against University Lab (video) in the Allstate Sugar Bowl National Prep Classic in January.
The Mississippi State signee also brings a flair and swagger to the game not many can match and when he enters a game at peak focus, he’s nearly impossible to deal with.
Over the last two seasons, Peters has really come into his own as a point guard after playing off the ball as a sophomore next to current Oklahoma State sophomore Tyree Griffin. Peters’ shooting ability still allows him to play off the ball on occasion next to UNO 2017 commit Lamont Berzat but Peters has made it a focus to develop his skills at the point and has proven to be a highly-skilled passer who can consistently find teammates in tight spaces.
He finished his career at Landry-Walker as a two-time state champion (2014, 2015) and was Louisiana’s Class 4A Player of the Year. His recruitment really took off in the Spring of 2015 playing on the Adidas circuit with New Orleans Elite, where he really displayed his ability to distribute next to VCU 2016 commit Malik Crowfield on the wing and Iowa State 2016 commit Cameron Lard in the paint. Peters was also an LSWA All-State selection as a junior after averaging 19.7 points with 5.0 assists at Landry-Walker and held offers from LSU, South Carolina, Gonzaga, and Wichita State among others before committing to Mississippi State in June of 2015.
