Double Pump Summer Tip Off: Francisco’s Standouts
Double Pump Summer Tip Off: Francisco’s Standouts
ANAHEIM, CA—The Double Pump Summer Tip Off had teams from most of the West Coast including an intriguing team out of Oregon—Fly Select Williams. With all the major shoe companies coveting most of the elite talent, there were a few gems to be had at this event including fast-rising combo-guard Jarred Hyder and sophomore sensation— Jahmai Mashak out of famed Etiwanda High School.
Jarred Hyder (Damien) Club Team: Team Eleate
2019, CG, 6-foot-3, 175 pounds
Joel’s Take: Hyder continues to elevate his stock this summer and the trend continued at this event. One Head Coach in the Mountain West Conference asked if he could play the 1 in his conference. He is known to be a spot-up shooter with deep range, but his ball skills and facilitaitng give enough evidence that warrant that suggestion.
Jahmai Mashack (Etiwanda) Club Team: Prodigy Elite
2021, WF, 6-foot-4, 185 pounds
Joel’s Take: I’m not sure there is a player that exerts the energy at both ends of the floor lik Mashack. The chiseled wing-type plays as if he was shot out of a cannon and he plays with purpose in mind. He can explode to the rim in transition, suffocates opposing guards, and his quickness, strength, and quickness is high-level. His jump shot and ball skills are on the come, but that will be the key to his development as player going forward.
Kaleb Anundi (Stayton/OR) Club Team: Fly Select Williams
2019, PF, 6-foot-8, 225 pounds
Joel’s Take: Fly Select Williams has a few players that project well to the college level—and Anundi was their most productive player. The skilled 4-man is fundamentally sound and can score inside-and-out. In transition he showed good hands while catching and finishing over the rim. On the block he has the ability to finisih over either shoulder and he plays with a good base.
Shane Bell (Richmond/Salesian) Club Team: Red & Black Basketball
2020, CG, 6-foot-3, 165 pounds
Joel’s Take: The biggest surprise of the event was the emergence of the skilled combo-guard—Shane Bell. He is a gifted combo-guard who has great length and ideal quickness and speed. His burst off the dribble is quite good and he knows how to get into the teeth of the defense. Once in the lane he can score over length or hand out the nifty assist. Definitely one of the more intriguing guard prospects California.
Kailen Rains (San Ysidro) Club Team: Cali Rebels 16U
2020, SG, 6-foot-3, 165 pounds
Joel’s Take: Rains continues to “rain” jump shots this summer. The rangy 2-guard has long arms, good quickness, and he’s getting more bouncy. He knock in the deep 3 off the catch where he shows good lift on his shot. In additon, his 2-dribble pull-up is becoming a weapon in the mid-range area.
