Recruiting Report: Khalid Price (2019)
Mountain Pointe High School has some of the most talent out of any team in the state over the past couple of years. However, until last year, the group had largely not lived up to expectations. This past season, the group was able to come together and made a deep run in the state tournament with Khalid Price playing a key role.
Price is a 5’10 PG who plays with Powerhouse for club basketball. He has made a name for himself due to his bulldog mentality. On the defensive side of the floor, he is as good of a defender as there is in the state. Further, he does not back down from opposing guards under any circumstances.
Price will play a huge role in whatever success Mountain Pointe has this upcoming season. With Price and Jalen Graham returning, this group figures to make another deep run in the state tournament. With that said, dethroning Pinnacle, who returns the majority of their state championship team from last year, is no easy task.
Khalid Price Recruiting
While Price has received quite a bit of interest, he does not have any offers at this point. With that said, he has received interest from “NAU, South Dakota, UC San Marcos, George Fox, and Mesa Benedictine.”
In terms of what he is looking for in a program, Price stated, “I’m looking for a great coach who is active in my recruitment and a school somewhat fairly close to home.” Further, he noted that he wants to play in a “good program.”
As far as academics are concerned, Price is not sure of what he wants to major in. However, he noted that he is interested in something “along the lines of business management.”
In addition to bringing an elite on ball defender, Price believes that he brings a program a leader. With that leadership, he brings “a lot of intensity” and a prospect that the coach can rely on to make the right decisions on the floor.
One area that Price noted that he needs to continue to improve is his attitude during adversity. Like a lot of prospect who play with a lot of toughness and tenacity, he needs to be reeled back at times. Unlike many prospects whom coaches have to try to teach to play with intensity and a level of concern, Price brings plenty of that, but at times it needs to be filtered.
Khalid Price Projection
Price is a more than capable shooter from deep who manages the tempo of the game well. Offensively, he makes good decisions and does not get pushed off of his spots. This makes him intriguing to be a true point guard.
On the defensive end of the floor, he is able to pick up most guards full court. He also makes it hard for them to hit their spots. He wins the tempo and execution battle which is key to many programs.
Price’s size and strength are factors that could limit his recruitment. More and more coaches are looking for lengthy guards who can play multiple positions. At times, it feels like the days of a true point guard are numbered.
In the right program, Price can play and make an impact at the high NCAA Division-II or NAIA Division-I level.
