Hardwood Classic (Kansas): Saturday Standouts Part II
Emmett Roberts, 5’8 PG (Iowa Intensity 16U)
This was the biggest surprise of the day in terms of Iowa prospects. Roberts was not here on Friday when we saw Iowa Intensity 16U play, but he definitely made his presence known on Saturday. He’s a true playmaker, a dynamic athlete with a tight handle, lots of savvy and plus quickness. His balance is impeccable and he’s able to create for himself and others off the bounce. He’ll have a big junior season at Meskwaki Settlement School.
Jack Peterson, 6′ G (Sioux City Bombers 17U)
Whenever we see Peterson, he impresses. And even when he doesn’t play particularly well, but rather normal, he’s a standout. He’s a skilled and heady guard with a high IQ, and sneaky athletic. Look for him to have a big-time senior season with what will again be a very good Sioux City East squad next season.
Tymon Vesey, 6’2 G (Showtime Hoopers Black 17U)
It’s been awhile since we’ve seen this Davenport North guard play, and his game has come a long way since then. He was going toe-to-toe with the guys from Y&R DeNard, an athletic squad from Chicago, and was fearless in doing so. He can shoot the mid-range and excels while attacking the hoop. His big frame allows him to absorb and sometimes finish through contact.
Corey Prather, 6′ G (Showtime Hoopers Black 17U)
This was the first time we remember seeing Prather play and he had himself a statement game. Another Davenport North guard (we’ve been seeing a lot of those this summer), he was red-hot while keeping his team in the game against one of Chicago’s best squads T&R-DeNard. Prather scored 16 first half points in that one, including four 3s. He ended the game with 21 points and five 3s.
Deandre Sorrells, 5’9 G (MOKAN Elite EYBL)
A gifted shooter, this rising senior from Grandview, Missouri canned six 3s during a win over Heat Elite, and we don’t remember seeing him miss one. Despite being the smallest guy on his team, he made the biggest impact in the score sheet, putting in a team-high 18 points in the win.
Cevin Clark, 5’11 G (Heat Elite 17U)
A true marksman, Clark was borderline incredible in a loss to MOKAN Elite EYBL. He scored a game-high 29 points in that game, and canned a whooping seven 3-balls. The sharpshooter from Arkansas City, Kansas was unconscious and at one point even threw up an off-balance runner from beyond the arc and buried it.
Blaize Kuhlmann, 5’10 SG (Iowa Intesnity 17U)
The Lynnville-Sully product hasn’t been the star of his team this weekend, but he’s certainly been a steady hand. A sniper from long-range, if he gets an open look from there, he’s likely to bury it. He’s got some ball-handling and play-making ability, too.
Conner Groves, 6’1 G (Showtime Hoopers Black)
It took a little while for the Sergeant Bluff-Luton guard to get going, but when he did he showed his ability to fill up the score sheet in a hurry. He canned back-to-back 3s in the first half of a tightly contested game vs Y&R-DeNard, and had the fans from Chicago impressed (we were in the stands with the Chicago folk). Groves is an athletic guard with handle who can create for himself off the bounce.
