Standouts: Best of The South (Day 3)
The third day of the HoopSeen Best of the South was in full force at Lake Point Champions Center on Saturday.
Here is a look at the standouts.
ICYMI:
CJ Walker (Orlando Christian Prep/E1T1)
Playing five games in two days, E1T1 was rotating players in and out. One of its key players, 2019 Orlando Christian Prep forward CJ Walker continues to his rise. The 6’7″ rising senior was cleaning up everything, making 3’s and stepbacks. He simply looked fresh and energized on both ends of the floor. North Carolina coach Roy Williams came to watch Walker in his 3 PM tilt with AC Georgia.
Marlon Allen (Boone/Team MOAM)
Part of an always steady Team MOAM program, 2019 forward Marlon Allen fits the bill. He doesn’t do anything that will wow you, but he gets inside for tough buckets, rebounds well and can hold his own defensively at his 6’5″ frame. Allen’s jump shot is coming along.
Dave Herard (Stranahan/South Florida Rockets)
For Stranahan, Dave Herard is one gifted shooter. It seems as if the 2020 guard always finds ways to get open and strike from deep or the mid-range with his quick release. The 6’2″ guard was hurting defenses with his outside touch and I expect that to continue.
Tre Carroll (Charlotte/Florida Future)
A 6’6″ 2021 forward, Tre Carroll is a long and fluid shooter. Carroll was making open 3’s for the Florida Future and dribbling the ball well. Once he becomes more aggressive at the point of attack, he’ll mature a bit.
Jeremiah Littlepage (Alabama McAdory/JSI Elite)
Long and athletic, Jeremiah Littlepage is skinny but he can shoot and he grabs boards with purpose and tenacity. The 6’7″ 2019 had a putback slam in a win over Balkman Elite. The consistency on offense can improve but right now Littlepage is a pure athlete who someone will add to their roster.
Shane Hunter (St. Thomas Aquinas/Florida Elite)
A vocal leader, Shane Hunter isn’t afraid to mix it up. The 6’6″ 2019 St. Thomas Aquinas forward grabs boards with ease and is active on the glass. Hunter has a good outside jumper. He is someone to monitor moving along the process with his size and shot.
Andrew Thelwell (Orangewood Christian/CP 25 Mix)
Taking a look at Andrew Thelwell on a first glance and you’d think his skinny build would hurt him. However, the 6’0″ 2020 Orangewood Christian is a lights out shooter who will make defenses pay in the blink of an eye. His drive to the rack is coming along, but right now Thelwell is shining at his biggest strength, shooting.
Devin Butts (Georgia Stratford/Team Georgia Magic)
Devin Butts saved his best for last in a close win over Team Parsons to end the night. The 6’5″ Team Georgia Magic guard is known for his confidence as a shooter and there was nothing more clutch than his corner 3 to seal the win for his side late. Butts can score in bunches.
