HARDWOOD: Friday Stock Risers (KS)
Prep Hoops takes a look at some of top performers in Lawrence.
The Hardwood Classic resumed action on Friday with several standout performances taking place in the final stages of pool play.
Here, Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at several players who played well on Friday.
41 — Trey Duffey, 6’5, PF, 2019, Seaman, SSA Elite Black
Duffey is an old-school post player with terrific footwork and a combination of toughness and skill. He spent much of the weekend competing against bigger, stronger interior players and had some success putting points on the board. He can knock down an outside shot when needed and is a consistent free throw shooter as well.
3 — Jake Potthoff, 6’6, G, 2019, Shawnee Mission South, MoKan Select
Potthoff is a skilled guard who can handle it and can get to the basket and finish in traffic. He has a good feel for scoring around the rim and can knock down outside shots as well. Potthoff has good size for a wing player at 6’6 and has the ability to see over a defense and make smart passes.
32 — Ethan Vlasic, 6’8, PF/C, 2019, Blue Valley North, KC Spurs Silver
Vlasic continues to impress this offseason and has established himself as one of the state’s most improved prospects in the 2019 class. The son of former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Mark Vlasic, Ethan has a long, rangy frame, a lot of bounce around the basket and has developed some toughness and strength with the ball. This weekend he showed the ability to score on the block with an array of old school type moves. He had several college coaches following his progress in Lawrence and we see a player that will likely find a home at the next level in due time.
1 — Dariq Williams, 5’11, PG, 2019, Parsons, PK Hoops
If there is a more athletic player under 6’0 in Kansas, we haven’t seen him. Williams can handle it, can get pretty much wherever he wants on the court off the bounce and is a creative finisher around the basket. He has good court vision and can find the open man and has the ability to lead a team at the point. With added consistency and a refined outside shot, Williams could take his game to the next level.
11 — Elijah Williams, 6’0, G, 2019, Olathe North, KC Team Rush
Williams doesn’t put a lot of points on the board, but he plays his role for KC Team Rush, coming off the bench to provide lockdown defense, hustle and energy. On Friday, he was often matched up against Scotty Pippen in a match-up against the Oakland Soldiers and helped Team Rush keep the guard in check.
