There’s clearly reason for excitement surrounding the potential of a no.1 versus no. 2 matchup on Sunday. All Ohio Red maintained their top seed with a very strong 5-1 outing at the Peach Invitational, where they played in the EYBL pool. Meanwhile, TNBA Flash jumped up a spot by going 6-0 and winning the Chicago Summer Slam.
Red’s Tre Williams has been the storyline in Ohio in terms of scholarship offers. Since July 12, he has received them from Youngstown State, Buffalo, Wright State, James Madison, IUPUI, UT-Martin, Bowling Green, and Miami (OH). Josh Corbin is the only other prospect on the team who has been offered this past week as UNC Charlotte extended one to him.
TNBA Flash’s 6’9” center Tommy Sala enters the weekend with offers from Fairmont State, Notre Dame (OH), and Charleston. He told us that Charleston has been at most of their games this season. Also, he has picked up interest from Furman and North Dakota.
All Oho Gold won the second highest bracket at Ballin Under 1 Roof to start the Live Period. The 5-1 weekend included an impressive 18-point win over NW Ohio. Playing a good game against Gold starts with trying to limit point guard Trey Syroka, a dynamic playmaker who told us Hillsdale, Ohio Northern, and Shawnee State will come to watch him in Columbus. Jackie Harris added offers from Cedarville and Walsh last weekend. He also picked up new interest from Rio Grande and Charleston in Louisville.
All Ohio Black jumped up five spots in the Grassroots Team Rankings with a 4-2 record at Peach Invitational. Demetrius Terry is playing with Black full-time for July. The St. Ed’s combo guard currently has interest from Youngstown State, Kent State, and Detroit.
Miller Factory’s Chris Boyle has experienced a ton of success as a football recruit recently. High academic programs like Bucknell and Holy Cross have offered him. But the 6’5” stretch/face-up forward would like to find an academic fit and continue his basketball career, per Miller Factory head coach Quentin Taylor. The future business finance major will be watched by Denison and Tiffin this weekend. He’s also talking to Williams, Bates, Hamilton, Colby, Babson, and Holy Cross, but they may not make it to the tourney.
The NEO Shooting Stars are back in action after a weekend off. Their spotlight prospect is Brett Martin, a 6’5” shooter with some versatility. He will attract Lake Erie and Malone to his games this weekend.
Akron Bobcats 6’4” wing/forward Chris Richardson is a nice sleeper prospect to check out. The athletic combo forward tells us that Akron Univ. will “follow up” with him.
Finally, Nova (Rodgers) is back in action for their second week this season. In Indy, they brought a couple of prep schools/2018 high schools grads to the court in Jejuan Weatherspoon and Stanley Williams. Also, Springfield duo Sam Towns and JaJuan “Jay” Rodgers can be found here.
