GASO WICHITA: Missouri Standouts
Prep Hoops takes a look at some of top performers in Wichita.
The Great American Shootout Midwest wrapped up play on Sunday at Wichita Hoops Facility in Bel Aire, Kan. with several standout performances taking place in the final stages of bracket play.
Here, Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at several Missouri players who played well throughout the weekend.
3 — Braden Appelhans, 6’3, G/F, 2022, Blue Springs, KC Team Rush 14U
A left hander with a solid, all-around skill set, Appelhans showed the ability to create plays off the bounce as he got to the basket several times and made nice dump down passes. He appears to still be growing and he will need to get bigger and stronger in the future, but Appelhans showed a nice all-around game for a youngster throughout the weekend in Wichita.
3 — Trey Bernard, 5’7, PG, 2019, Branson, Missouri Flight
Bernard brings elite quickness, ball handling and savvy to the court as he has the ability to break down a defense off the dribble, get to the basket and make plays. He can knock down outside shots but is at his best attacking the basket and finishing tough chances in the lane.
25 — Darrius Hughes, 6’5, F, 2019, Rockhurst, KC Team Rush 17U
Hughes continues to put together a big offseason for KC Team Rush, showcasing a strong, physical frame and the ability to do work in the paint, and the skill to step out to the perimeter and handle the ball some and shoot from the outside.
0 — Jace Lance, 6’1, PG, 2020, Marshall, KC Team Rush 16U
Lance had a terrific showing throughout the weekend running the point for KC Team Rush. A coaches son, Lance brings a high basketball IQ and leadership qualities to the point guard position and combines those attributes with a big motor and a competitive drive. He sees the floor well and can knock down perimeter shots and finds a way to put the ball in the basket when needed.
12 — Tanner Oetting, 6’1, G, 2019, Kickapoo, Missouri Flight
Oetting has put on extra size and muscle over the past year and uses that extra strength to get on the boards and muscle up with opponents at the defensive end. At the offensive end he is a shot creator and has the ability to knock down jumpers off the dribble with range that extends out past the 3-point arc.
4 — Gavin Richardson, 6’3, G/F, 2019, Oak Grove, KC Pacers White
Richardson had to do a lot of work at the defensive end of the floor in the paint and showed some toughness going up against bigger, stronger players. He is naturally a wing player, and it showed at the offensive end of the court where he showed the ability to shoot the 3 and direct traffic with his passing.
12 — Lamel Robinson, 6’0, G, 2019, Park Hill South, KC Team Rush
Robinson brings elite speed and quickness to the court and opponents had a difficult time containing him and keeping him out of the lane throughout the weekend. He handles the ball on a strong, creates well off the bounce and is terrific and finishing tough chances around the basket in traffic.
