Prospect Profile: Taylor Pomeroy (2019 Franklin HS/Rose City Basketball 17U)
He was largely underneath the general radar last year since Franklin High School didn’t have much success. But Taylor Pomeroy has found his groove this summer with the Rose City Basketball AAU program and the 6-foot-2, 165-pound combo guard is starting to draw some attention. He recently showed off his ability to score at the Double Pump Summer Tip-Off with the Red team and he’s hopeful the rest of the summer will lead to some increased college interest.
“We only won one game (at the tournament) but we played against some top competition,” Pomeroy said. “This summer my shooting has been consistent from the mid-range and the three-point line. I’ve been trying to find my teammates a lot and I’ve been getting to the basket. I’ve been working on my defense to be a lockdown defender.”
Pomeroy put up some big scoring totals this past weekend and it has generated some buzz with college coaches. He declines to name any specific schools yet but notes that programs from the D-II and D-III levels have been in contact and have indicated that they will be watching his games the rest of this month. As any other rising senior would tell you, Pomeroy dreams of playing Division I basketball but he appreciates the interest he’s getting so far too.
“D-II really interests me as that’s a pretty high level of basketball,” Pomeroy said. “I’d love to play as high as I can but D-II would be great. I’m really looking for a program where I could contribute early on.”
Pomeroy will get his chance in front of college coaches starting this weekend down in Pomona at the WCE Summer Classic. “I just want to show that I can hang with these top level guys,” Pomeroy said. “I want to show that I can be consistent and score on anybody. I want to show the coaches that I’m a complete player.”
