Adidas Invitational: 2019 Standouts
The Adidas Invitational was a great opportunity for us to get out and see a wide array of talent, focusing mainly on the top 2019 and 2020 prospects at the event. Today, we breakdown some of our top players we saw.
Jacob Laravia – 6’7 SF 2019 – Lawrence Central (IN) / Gametime-Thomas 2019
Laravia is a faced-up forward who can play around the rim while still being able to play on the wing. More comfortable moving inside the arc where his athletic ability and length play up well. Really solid finisher against contact and can be difficult to defend in the post. Hit a solid spot up three with a low release but was in rhythm.
Noah Pack – 6’7 C 2019 – Georgetown (OH) / Ohio Crossover 2019
Long, thin post player who lacks strength and but has some toughness. However, he can play down low and finish over the top. Has good instincts to keep the ball high and out of the reach of defenders. Deceptive with his mobility and once he packs on some more weight and strength, he could be a much more effective low post scorer.
Ethan Conley – 6’5 SF 2019 – Franklin Monroe (OH) / Dayton Metro 2019
Conley is a big, strong wing who can impact the game on both ends. Really tough and physical on the low block and rebounds the ball so well. He does quite a bit on the offensive end because of his inside-out game. Shoots it at a good clip from three and can post up and lay into defenders with ease.
Brice Hill – 6’5 SF 2019 – Seven Hills (OH) / Mid Ohio Pumas 2019 Elite
Brice is a long, lanky wing who has solid handles and an adept jumper. Was really good on the ball and along the perimeter, making solid plays off the dribble where he likes to get into jumpers. Has a really solid feel for getting his shot off and while he can drive, doesn’t too much and plays within himself. Great size with that kind of stroke and potential versatility of defense.
Matthew Frost – 6’5 SF 2019 – Columbus East (IN) / Indiana Elite Central 2019
Looked as good as he has in a while, shooting the ball well and moving all over the floor. Looked a little lost in the spring and needed to see a game like this where he has it all going. Was playing well off the ball, creating a bit in the mid-range.
Gage McGuire – 6’6 PF 2019 – Coldwater (MI) / Greenwood Elite 2019
Gage is a tall wing who was extremely impressive in the games we saw this weekend. Very mobile and versatile with his toughness on drives at the rim. Could pull-up from three and be deadly but then would mix it up and take it all the way to the rim in traffic or the half court. For his size, really solid creation ability and could be very good at the next level.
