Double Pump Summer Tip Off: Francisco’s Sleepers
Double Pump Summer Tip Off: Francisco’s Sleepers
ANAHEIM, CA—The Double Pump Summer Tip Off had teams from most of the West Coast including an intriguing team out of Oregon—Fly Select Williams. With all the major shoe companies coveting most of the elite talent, there were a few gems to be had at this event including fast-rising combo-guard Jarred Hyder and sophomore sensation— Jahmai Mashack out of famed Etiwanda High School.
Pierce Sterling (Riverside Notre Dame) Club Team: IEBP All Stars
2019, CG, 6-foot-2, 160 pounds
Joel’s Take: Sterling is a left-handed combo-guard who thinks score more than pass. He has a solid handle, good speed, and he is very crafty while navigating the paint. His jump shot is playable out to 20-feet, but the key to his growth will be refining his point guard skills (pick n roll, drive and kick, etc.) to reach his potential.
Jason Green (Oak Hillside) Club Team: IEBP Team Pinkney
2020, WF, 6-foot-4, 170 pounds
Joel’s Take: This gangly wing-type is one of the more interesting prospects I saw at the event. Extraordinary length, high-level quickness, and having a nose for the ball describe this up-and-coming thoroughbred. Defensively, his length, instincts, and active hands make him a potential lock-down defender. If he works on his jump shot and pull-up game, he should be able to play at some level of college basketball.
Alexander Archer (Cerritos) Club Team: Calif Rebels 16U
2021, PG, 6-foot-3, 160 pounds
Joel’s Take: The long and smooth operating Archer plays the game at a great pace. He has great size for the pg position, changes speeds very well, and he is sneaky quick. However, the best aspect of his game is his uncanny vision, especially off the dribble. When the defense cut off his penetration, he showed the ability to rise up and nail the jump shot in the mid-range area.
Mathew Kroner (Chiawana/OR) Club Team: Fly Select Williams
2019, PF, 6-foot-8, 225 pounds
Joel’s Take: “Intriguing” is the first word that comes immediately to mind when describing Kroner. The left-handed post prospect can score inside-and-out and he shows a solid 2nd jump while pursuing rebounds. The elbow touch is there as well and he showed off this running and finishing ability in transition with a big dunk.
Anton Mozga (Riverside/Notre Dame). Club Team: Team Eleate
2019, SG/WF, 6-foot-5, 170 pounds
Joel’s Take: Mozga has the length, perimeter skill, and savvy to be a solid glue-type at the Division II level. He impacts the game in a variety of ways due to his passing, rebounding, and ability to hit the timely shot. The skills and overall talent are there, being consistent with the jump shot will attract the coaches.
Chase McClain (Mountain View/OR) Club Team: Fly Select Williams
2019, SG, 6-foot-2, 185 pounds
Joel’s Take: McClain is solid looking scoring guard for some level of college basketball. He utilizes the triple threat to get to the rim and he can knock in the 3-point shot. His burst is impressive and he has the necessary explosion to finish over the “bigs” inside. Defensively, he has the length and lateral quickness to be a stout defender down the road.
