Top Performers of the First Certified Period
Coaches and players are already on the move to their next tournament as the second certified period starts today at 5 pm. Before that starts, here’s a look at some of the top performers of the first week of July AAU.
Dontaie Allen, Pendleton County (M.A.T.T.S. Mustangs) – Dontaie is arguable the hottest name in the country right now. Allen added offers from Florida, Illinois, Pittsburgh, Oklahoma, Iowa State, Auburn Saint Louis and Louisville and flew up to the #46 ranking in the country according to 247 sports. You won’t find many more players in America with the momentum Dontaie has built over the last week.
KyKy Tandy, University Heights, (Team Thad) – Ky Ky had a great week at the UA Classic and has added offers from Xavier, Clemson and Oklahoma State over the last week. Tandy shot the ball incredibly well and continues to impress coaches at all levels. KyKy is one of the best in the country and should keep stacking offers for the next two weeks and beyond.
Isaiah Cozart, Madison Central, (M.A.T.T.S. Mustangs) – The big fella from Richmond has added 9 offers since last Wednesday and is starting to creep towards high major status. Toledo, Kent State, UNC-Asheville, St. Bonaventure, Lipscomb, Bucknell, UNC-Wilmington, East Tennessee State University and Wofford all offered Isaiah over the course of 4 days. Along with Allen, Cozart is making a name for himself nationally at this point.
Trey Minter, Butler (Team Vision) – Trey put up several high scoring games and found himself among the top scorers in the entire Under Armour Association tournament. Minter can score with the best of them in 2020 and when he’s hot he can go nuclear. Look for Minter’s stock to continue rising.
Ben Johnson, Lexington Catholic (M.A.T.T.S. Mustangs) – Just a sophomore, Johnson had a big weekend shooting the ball against some high profile competition. Ben’s eventually going to transition off the ball to the SG spot where he doesn’t have to work so hard bringing the ball up and scoring. For right now, Johnson projects as a mid major or better scorer in the 2021 class.
Dalton Bruner, West Jessamine (NKY Force) – Dalton had a monster weekend scoring the ball at the Adidas Invitational. Bruner averaged 28 points per game over 8 games on his way to leading the Force to the Gold Championship. Bruner is a good athlete and strong and should find a home at the small college level.
Reid Jolly, Campbell County (NKY Force) – Bruner’s teammate, Jolly continues to impress as a small college post/wing who is likely the favorite for player of the year in the 10th region next season. Reid averaged 21 points and 11 rebounds for the Force in Bracket play on the way to the championship.
Marques Warrick, Henry Clay (CKY Magic – Morton) – Warrick continues to impress. Marques averaged 15 points and 3 rebounds per game last weekend for the Magic en route to the Championship at the Ballin Under 1 Roof Event. Leading his team in scoring is nothing new to the Junior lefty but he impresses with his ability to score at all 3 levels against the type of athletes you expect to see at the next level.
Kenny White, Madisonville – North Hopkins (Hoop Dreams) – White averaged nearly 15 points and 10 rebounds per game at the Peach State Showcase. His team struggled to a 1-4 record but White starred. He will flash his potential frequently and look like a high major player at times but if White puts together some consistency he can be special.
Trey Minter, Scott (Ohio Ballstars) – One of the top seniors in Northern Kentucky, Minter boosted his college stock by averaging a double double last week with 16 points and 10 rebounds per game. Several D2, NAIA and D3 schools will be out to see Meister again this week and he could start picking up scholarship offers soon.
