Prospect Spotlight: Jett Briceno (2019 Kentridge HS)
You could say that 2018 has gone well for Jett Briceno on the AAU circuit. The lanky 6-foot-5, 180-pound wing from Kentridge High School was not only was a part of NW Coastal Elite squad that captured the Premier Summer Showcase in Bellevue, he hit a couple of game winning shots to boot. While he’s hoping that college coaches are watching, the truth of the matter is he’s just grateful that he’s in action this year.
“It’s been exciting to be out on the court – last year I dislocated my elbow and I was out for awhile,” Briceno said. “This year it’s been a lot of inside-out for me, I’ve been getting to the basket and doing some scoring and then I’m getting it going from the outside with my jumpshot.”
At the Premier Summer Showcase, Briceno’s game was on display. He hit game winning shots in the quarterfinals and semis, and was named Tournament MVP for his efforts. Briceno noted that he’s been focusing on improving his ball-handling, using his dribbling to get to spaces where he can get his shot off. This diversity to his game has led to some college recruiting interest that he’s been happy about.
“I’ve been in contact with the coaches from Idaho, UC San Diego, and Montana State,” Briceno said. “No offers yet, but I’ve been to all three campuses and I like them and I like talking to the coaches. Honestly, I just want to go where I can go play and get an education.”
Briceno notes that he’s still open to other schools jumping into the mix and he’s not sure if he’s given the chance he’ll sign early or not. He’s just playing things by ear at this point, with two more weekends to go in the July evaluation period. “I’m just trying to go out and show what I can do,” Briceno said. “Do that and get more interest.”
Briceno and his NW Coastal Elite teammates hoping to challenge for another title this upcoming weekend at the Premier Summer Championships in Salem, Oregon.
