GASO WICHITA: Kansas Top Point Guards
Prep Hoops takes a look at some of top point guards in Wichita.
The Great American Shootout Midwest wrapped up play on Sunday at Wichita Hoops Facility in Bel Aire, Kan. with several standout performances taking place in the final stages of bracket play.
Here, Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at several Kansas players who played their roles well throughout the weekend.
1 — Bowen Gooch, 6’0, PG, 2019, Belle Plaine, KS MTXE 17U Navy (pictured)
One of Kansas’ most underrated guards, Gooch is a tough point guard who handles pressure and brings a calm, steady presence to the floor. He is strong with the ball, can create a little off the bounce and is a knock down shooter who can get hot from distance in a hurry.
12 — Nolan Ford, 6’1, PG, 2019, Basehor-Linwood, KC Spurs Silver
We’ve written a lot about Ford over the past few months as he has impressed with his toughness and leadership abilities as a no nonsense point guard. Also a standout football prospect, Ford brings a physical style of play to the court and continues to show the ability to lead an offense from the point guard position and knock down open shots when his number is called.
30 — Jared Mocaby, 6’1, PG, 2019, Derby, River City 17U Black
A strong point guard, Mocaby brings poise and leadership qualities to the backcourt. He is strong with the ball, rarely makes mental mistakes or get sloppy with the ball, and has the ability to knock down open outside shots.
6 — Johnny Murdock, 5’10, PG, 2019, Wichita Northeast, River City 17U Black
A terrific outside shooter, Murdock has taken his game to new levels this offseason. Known throughout much of his high school career for his shooting ability, Murdock has become a true point guard, capable of handling the ball under pressure and leading a team. He can get to the basket, does a good job of finishing through contact and can still shoot with range.
1 — Trey Reid, 6’1, PG, 2020, Maize South, NLHA 16U Gaddis
Reid has flown under the radar a little in Kansas’ hoops, but brought a calm, steady demeanor to the backcourt throughout the weekend for NLHA 16U Gaddis. He has good size and quickness for a lead guard and handles pressure with ease in the backcourt.
