Pangos Sweet 16: 17U Invitational All-Arizona Team
Only two Arizona teams were in the select few that were invited to participate in the 17U Invitational group at the Pangos Sweet 16. While many of Arizona’s top teams played elsewhere in the 1st July live period, this group was filled with elite teams. Many Arizona guys stood out with the prospects below playing the best.
Pangos Sweet 16: 17U Invitational All-Arizona Team MVP
D’Maurian Williams 6’4 PG 2019 Westview (Factory)
Williams had moments this past weekend in which he looked absolutely unstoppable. Like always, he was able to get into the paint at will. With that said, his finishing was unreal at times. He made a number of extremely challenging looks around the rim while making a number of good kick outs. Williams had a solid weekend in the 1st July live period.
Pangos Sweet 16: 17U Invitational All-Arizona 1st Team
Emmanuel Taban 6’7 SG 2019 Apollo (Factory)
Taban is special. Tweets surfaced this weekend that members of the University of Arizona coaching staff had their eyes on him. Further, he has a number of high level D1 offers. It is easy to see why. He does more than just score the basketball. While he is an elite shooter from deep, he makes a number of game changing plays on the defensive end. He anticipates well, is a good rebounder, always rotating in help side, and takes charges. At 6’7, he has an extremely high basketball IQ as well.
Cedric Bridges 6’6 SF/PF 2018 Westview (Factory)
There might not be a prospect in the state who has impressed me more than Bridges as of late. The 2018 prospect is in consideration for the most college ready athletes in the state. In addition to having an elite vertical, he is well built and never gets pushed off of his spot. Further, he has a soft touch around the rim while having the strength and vertical necessary to rip the rim down. Moreover, he has improved his ability to shoot it from mid-range and 3.
Trent Brown 6’2 PG 2019 Pinnacle (AZ Monsoon)
Brown’s basketball IQ is off of the charts. He has a tremendous feel for the game and always manages the tempo extremely well. Further, he puts his teammates in spots where they can be successful. He has a rare knack for always making the right reads. It is extremely rare for him to make a mistake. It would not be surprising to me to see Brown be a 3 to 1 assist to turnover prospect at the college level. Further, he does everything it takes to win and is a knockdown shooter.
Kyle Patterson 6’5 SG/SF 2019 Perry (AZ Monsoon)
Patterson’s motor is second to none. Despite only being 6’5, he finds a way to get his hand on seemingly every rebound and loose basketball. He has great instincts and competes on every possession. While there are other prospects who might have higher ceilings due to their athleticism, Patterson is a gamer who understands how to win. He finishes well around the rim, is a more than capable shooter, and he is a double-double machine. While his game might lack some flash, it does not lack effectiveness. Further, all of his skills translate to the college level.
Wesley Harris 6’6 SF/PF 2018 Desert Vista (Compton Magic Select)
Harris is very similar in comparison to Bridges. He is an elite athlete with good strength. Further, he finishes extremely well around the rim. His toughness and motor make him intriguing. He never stops competing and finds a way to impact every game due to his relentless effort and skill set. Harris has high upside and will make a name for himself at the next level.
Bryce Davis 6’8 PF 2018 Deer Valley (Compton Magic Select)
Despite having a number of NAIAs and NCAA Division-II schools interested, Davis has elected to play in the July live period hoping to attain an NCAA Division-I offer. He is without a question the most skilled post prospect on the Compton Magic Select team. He has excellent footwork and a smooth jump shot. He is capable of shooting it from deep and from mid-range. While he might not end up with the D1 offer at the end of this live period. Davis is highly skilled and worth a look.
