Prospect Watch: Amorey Womack (2019)
Class of 2019 guard Amorey Womack of Webster Groves has experienced the best of summer basketball by competing in last weekend’s Nike EYBL Peach Jam in North Augusta, S.C.
The 6’0″ Womack is playing this summer with the Bluff City Legends out of Memphis, TN. After seeing sparse minutes early on in the EYBL regular season, Womack worked his way into regular minutes as the season wore on in the spring.
At last weekend’s Peach Jam, Womack enjoyed one of his best performances of the summer season when he scored 19 points in 18 minutes in a victory over Each 1 Teach 1.
“The experience of the EYBL has been great,” Womack said. “I have the opportunity to compete at the highest level against the best talent in the world. There is a lot of great competition and everybody brings their A-Game. There’s nothing easy in the EYBL. Nothing.
“It meant even more to get to play. I’ve been able to prove to myself and everyone else that not only I belong here, but I’m able to play major minutes and be a contributor on one of the best teams in the EYBL. I’m just thankful for the opportunity.”
Last week, Womack picked up his first scholarship offer from Division II Florida Southern. He has also received interest from a number of Division I schools, including Cal-State Bakersfield, Murray State, Loyola (IL), Nevada, Bethune-Cookman, Brown, Princeton and Division IIs Albion University, Sioux Falls University
Womack is an aggressive offensive threat who has the ability to score from three levels. His overall game has really involved in the past two years with improved passing and play on the defensive end. As a junior, he was a valuable player on the Statesmen’s Class 5 state championship team. He averaged seven points and four rebounds in a complimentary role to graduated stars Courtney Ramey and Carte’are Gordon.
“It was very exciting and one of the best experiences of my life,” he said. “A lot of people doubted us because of the adversity we faced in the beginning of the year, but it feels good to come out on top.”
With Ramey and Gordon now in the collegiate ranks, expect Womack to become a bigger part of Webster Groves’ offensive attack as they look to continue its great run of success.
“I used to want to prove to everyone how good I was, but now I just want to be a winner,” he said. “I’ve just been working everyday to get my game where it needs to be to win another state title.”
