Prospect Spotlight: Sam Hines (2020)
A top-20 prospect in Georgia’s class of 2020, Sam Hines has already started to make for a name for himself in the Peach State, and he’s seemingly just getting started.
The 6-foot-5 wing predicates his game on playmaking and leadership, and says he’s best when going at the rim aggressively.
“As a player, I feel that I’m very good at attacking and getting into the paint and finding my spots. Also, I feel like I’m a playmaker for my teammates,” said Hines. “I also like to lead my team, and I’m taking over a bigger role in July as a leader.”
Hines will play for Wheeler the next two seasons after playing his first two tears at St. Francis. He broke down to PHGA why he made the switch.
“The first reason I transferred is that my parents are moving. And then at Wheeler I feel like I have a great opportunity to play the wing and they have a coach who believes in me,” said Hines. “I’ve been working out with them this summer and they’ve made me feel at home.”
Ahead of his junior season with the Wildcats, Hines will spend his summer playing with Game Elite Black 16U, an adidas Gauntlet program.
“At the beginning of the spring I wasn’t playing the best, but later on, once I started to develop and follow what my coaches were saying, I started playing really well,” said Hines.
“This July we added some players that really fit the system well, and we think we can win every game we play in July.”
In addition to winning games and tournaments, Hines hopes to earn some high-major Division I college interest.
North Florida offered him in June. Georgia, Florida, Georgia Southern, Clemson and Georgia Tech have all texted him and told him they were going to be watching him this summer.
“For the next year, my goal is really to be seen and every time I step on the court I want to perform at the highest level like like my dream school is watching,” said Hines.
“I’d like to get some offers and interest at some of the big schools, so I can fulfill my dream of playing basketball at a good D1 basketball school.”
