Ramsey Emerging as a Prospect
MEQUON — A top 10 prospect in the state of Wisconsin, Milwaukee (Wis.) Destiny 2019 shooting guard Carlos Ramsey has started racking up interest across Division 1. First to the punch, UW-Milwaukee and head coach Pat Baldwin made the first move on the strong, athletic guard.
“It felt good,” Ramsey told Prep Hoops Wisconsin. “I worked real hard for it. It feels good to have a Division 1 offer on my name.
“They liked the way I played. I play hard, I play tough, I showed leadership. They like how I can score from all three levels.”
Illinois, Grambling State, Dayton, San Diego, Texas Southern, UW-Green Bay, Miami (OH), Eastern Illinois, and others are expressing interest in Ramsey this summer.
The 6-foot-3 senior attended Wisconsin’s advanced camp in June and picked up interest from the Badgers, meeting with head coach Greg Gard.
“He told me to keep playing hard,” said Ramsey. “He liked the way I played. He thinks I’m tough too. He said if I keep playing hard, maybe I can get that offer from Wisconsin.”
Ramsey said one program appears closest to offering next.
“Grambling is hard after me right now,” he said. “They’re going to keep watching me and keep tabs on me.”
Following the July evaluation period, Ramsey is looking to schedule some unofficial visits.
“I should be going on some visits real soon after July,” he said. “I really want to visit Grambling, Wisconsin, Bradley, and Green Bay.”
Ramsey added that he may attend a prep school for his senior year. He said he’s in talks with IMG Academy, Hillcrest, and Arizona Compass about potentially joining their programs next season.
Regardless, Ramsey isn’t planning on making a decision until the spring.
“I want to play out my senior year,” he said. “If I don’t stay at Destiny, I’ll go prep and hopefully get the offers I want. I’m really shooting for a high major school. I really think I can play at that level.”
