Next Level Invite: Friday Standouts (Part II)
Brandon Adelman, 6’2 PG (Minnesota Comets Elite 17U)
Maybe the most skilled player that I saw on Friday, Adelman is a guy that can come down and pull-up off the bounce whenever his team needs a bucket. He was penetrating well and creating for teammates, and he can create looks for himself. A smooth, skilled and generally solid guard out of New London-Spicer.
Isaac Fink, 6’4 SG (Minnesota Comets Elite 17U)
A bigger guard than his teammate Aldeman, Spicer had a huge second half in a win over All Iowa Attack, helping to bury the Iowa squad with 12 late points. His size from the guard spot is a huge asset, and his ability to score from all three level makes him a threat from outside and down low.
Derek Krogmann, 6’7 PF (Martin Bros 17U)
His teammate Cole Henry provided the razzle-dazzle but it was Krogmann who led the Martin Brothers in scoring during their win over Wisconsin Playmakers-Stege. The West Delaware rising senior was too long and too strong to handle in the paint, and all eight of his field goals came at the rim as a result.
Bryce Paulsen, 6’2 SG (SW Minnesota Stars 17U)
A solid, fundamentally sound prospect out of Minnesota’s Marshall High School. He was the best player on a gritty and resilient Minnesota squad, Paulsen is an off guard with strong frame that allows him to absorb contact well. He’s a solid shooter as evidenced by his two first half 3s, and he’s poised under pressure.
Payton Guiot, 6′ PG (Yanders Law 17U)
Perhaps the most dynamic scorer we saw all day, this Arkansas (Greene County Tech) lead guard has a little bit of Trae Young in him. He can create his own looks and lets if fly from literally anywhere short of half court, and it always has a chance to drop. He canned eight 3s in a win over SW Minnesota Stars, electrifying the crowd in the process.
Eli Mostaert, 6’4 PF (WOTN Swedberg 17U)
An undersized but oh so effective post, Mostaert was torching Kingdom Hoops Elite on Friday afternoon and nearly willed his Minnesota squad to a W on grit, will, and determination alone. The Lakeville North post possesses a nice mid-range game and a really high motor.
Sean Peeters, 6’4 PF (Quad City Elite 16U)
Another guy who is an undersized post, but helps to neutralize it with a high-motor, and in Peeters’ case, some really nice length. The Davenport Assumption forward has a nose for the ball, and although he only scored two points in a win over Wisconsin Surge Elite, he played his role well, and was a ball-hunter for his squad.
Cameron Soenksen, 6’1 G (Iowa Mavericks 16U)
This wasn’t the best we’ve seen Soenksen play, but it may have been the most entertaining he’s ever been. We knew he had bounce, and he had his pogo stick out in this one. Soenksen was up with the big boys on nearly every rebound opportunity, and was using his speed and athleticism to make life miserable for the opponent defensively. He did can two 3s in the loss to ET21 Buckeyes, but his strength is still his raw athleticism.
