UA Select Super 16 (2021 Guards/Wings)
Here is a look at the top Class of 2021 guards and wings from last weekend’s UA PTN Select Super 16 in Cape Girardeau:
Rico Singleton 6’0″ St. Louis Blazers
The young shooting guard from Lift for Life helped lead the Blazers to the 15U championship. He came up big in the finals against Team Ramey when he scored all 10 of his points, including the game winning free throws with one second left. He was tough to defend when driving to the basket and he shot the ball well from 3-point range, especially from the corners. His motor is always running.
Illyaas Harris 5’9″ Team Ramey 2021
The talented floor general from Marquette High was one of the top point guards at the entire tournament, regardless of class. He knows how to play his position as a facilitator, defender and general leader of a team. In one game, he got four steals and generally disrupted the opposing team. In another game, he got key buckets and nailed down the win with free throws down the stretch. He is quick and plays with a lot of savvy and good decision making.
DeMarcus Sanford 6’1″ St. Louis Blazers
A talented offensive player from Lift for Life who was one of the catalysts for the 15U tournament champions. He showed the ability to get buckets from many spots on the floor. He does a lot of his best work off the dribble where he has a nice pull up jumper and he can get to the basket. He will also post up and knock down a good turnaround jumper on the baseline. He also uses his length to be a factor on the defensive end.
Anthony Mackins 6’1″ Cape Elite 16U
A very impressive young combo guard from Cape Girardeau Central who was very productive while playing against 16U and 17U competition throughout the weekend. He has good size and a herky-jerky style of play that keeps opposing defenders off balance. He was able to get to the basket consistently going either left or right and was able to finish with layups and floaters at different angles.
Dajuan Fields 5’9″ Team Ramey 2021
A young point guard from Belleville West, IL, who plays the game with a lot of pace and energy at both ends of the floor. He was a real sparkplug with his dribble penetration and tenacious ball-hawking defense. In an up-tempo game, he displayed the ability to put up buckets in a short stretch to get his team going.
Sonny Amiable 5’7″ 34Hoops
A talented young point guard from Windsor who plays the game with a lot of poise. He’s small, but he’s quick and he knows where he wants to go at all times. He could be a one-man press breaker and he did a nice job of locating open teammates and getting them the ball when it was time to score. He was also a capable 3-point shooter who hit several open triples during the weekend.
Hasani Spann 5’10” Team Ramey 2021
A young shooting guard from MICDS who comes off the bench to provide instant offense for a team that went to the championship game. When he has time and space, he can light it up from 3-point range. In the semifinals, he scored 19 points and made five 3-pointers to lead Team Ramey into the championship game.
