Francisco’s Finest: Pangos Premier 80 Showcase (Utah Standouts)
LYNWOOD, CA—There were two major positives while arriving at Firebaugh High School Gymnasium—air conditioning and a bevy of talent. Dinos Trigonis continues to attract the best of the best around the country and it that will probably be the case at the FAB 48 in Las Vegas in a couple of weeks. The prospects ranged from 2022 standout Amari Bailey to 2020 stud Mady Sissoko—as well as a plethora of Division 1 prospects in between.
Jared McGregor (Westlake/UT)
2019, PG, 6-foot-2, 160 pounds
Joel’s Take: McGregor is a fiesty point guard prospect that plays with assertiveness and moxie. He advances the ball well in the open court, moves well without the ball, and can shoot it with range. He gets great lift on his shot and his mechanics are quite good.
Bernardo Da Silva (Wasatch Academy/UT)
2019, PF, 6-foot-9, 210 pounds
Joel’s Take: The rangy Da Silva has been on our recruitng radar since last spring when he displayed his Division 1 length and athleticism. He runs well in transition and can finish with consistency as he attacks the rim. He showed a solid touch to the elbow and
Hayden Welling (Corner Canyon/UT)
2019, PF, 6-foot-8, 200 pounds
Joel’s Take: Welling was yet another prospect who was fully engaged at all times. In addition to playing hard, he also showed off his skill set as well. On the perimeter he took defenders off the dribble and was able to finish over length and through contact. He has a nice soft touch that extended out to the elbow and overall was very productive at both ends.
Richie Saunders (Riverton, UT)
2019, SG, 6-foot-4, 175 pounds
Joel’s Take: Saunders had a terrific opening game as he exhibited his impeccable jump shot. He gets great lift on his shot and his mechanics are impeccable. He can come down off a pin-down screen or rise up in transition and nail the pull-up. He plays with assertiveness at both ends, cuts well in the offense, and wasn’t afraid to get his nose dirty in the paint.
Gabe Toombs (Corner Canyon/UT)
2019, 6-foot-5, 215 pounds
Joel’s Take: Motor and/or moxie are the first terms to come immediately to mind when describing Toombs. The “Bull in a China Shop” fits the description as Toombs banged his way to consistent productivity at both ends of the floor. He pursues rebounds, attacks the rim in transition, and defended quite well considering his lateral quickness needs to improve.
