Pangos Premier 80: Mr. Productivity(s)
Lynwood, Ca. — Belmont Shore club director and Pangos camp and events director Dinos Trigonis drew another strong contingent of players to his July live viewing period kick-off event, the Pangos Premier 80.
Prospects ranged from incoming freshmen to rising seniors and were well-balanced from a positional standpoint with a strong mix of guards, wings and big men. The one-night showcase drew over 40 Division I college coaches as well as a handful of Division II and Division III coaches and a solid media presence.
Here are some of the most productive players from the event:
Jakob Alamudun, Marina (CA)
One thing you never have to question with Alamudun is if he’s going to play hard. The 6-foot-4 rising senior brings tons of energy to both sides of the floor, rebounds well in and out of his space and can guard multiple spots at the high school level. The part of Alamudun’s game that has improved the most over the last year is his 3-point shooting as he’s now a capable shot maker off the catch.
Bayron Matos-Garcia, Hamilton Heights Christian (TN)
Matos-Garcia was one of the more physically imposing players in the gym. The 6-foot-8, 230 (or so) pounder has a well-built frame with massive shoulders and good length. The rising junior used those physical attributes to his advantage in the paint, bullying his way to the basket and overpowering defenders to finish at the rim. Matos-Garcia also showed an active approach to rebounding and rim running.
Isaiah Hawthorne, Tracy (CA)
Hawthorne showed a ton of versatility in his two games of the evening. The 6-foot-7 senior-to-be has the ball skills to break a defender down off the bounce in the half-court setting, and when he gets into the paint, has the wherewithal to make a high IQ decision as to when to score and when to set up a teammate.
6-foot-9 forward Mady Sissoko was an overwhelming interior presence at the Pangos Premier 80.James Keefe, Loyola (CA)
Keefe is another guy you never have to question his motor. The 6-foot-7 power forward gobbled up defensive rebounds, kicked to his guards, and ran the floor with purpose resulting in multiple paint touches in transition. The key for Keefe will be how consistent his 3-point shot becomes and he connected on a couple of smooth looking corner treys.
Luis Riascos, San Gabriel Academy (CA)
Riascos’ skill set is very intriguing because of his versatility. At 6-feet-4, the junior-to-be is a dynamic playmaker in transition and off the wing in the half-court setting. Riascos always seems to make the right decisions with the ball in his hands, has high level vision and passing ability, and finishes around the basket with a crafty flair.
Mady Sissoko, Wasatch Academy (UT)
It was impossible to keep Sissoko off of the offensive glass because of his sheer desire to outwork everybody else. The 6-foot-9 rising junior is a springy athlete with quick first and second jumps, resulting in two-hand dunk finishes or second-chance opportunities off of offensive rebounds. Sissoko also showed his rim protecting prowess with his shot contesting and blocking abilities.
