Adidas Invitational: Thursday
INDIANAPOLIS, IN | The second day of the Adidas Invitation is complete and with it a host of new players and some early offers for one standout in-state. Here is our breakdown of what we saw on Thursday.
Gage McGuire Must Recruit From Michigan
Greenwood Elite 2019’s were one of the more impressive groups we got a chance to see on Thursday. The best of that bunch was Coldwater (MI) wing Gage McGuire. The 6’6 prospect had it all working and was knocking down jumpers all over the floor. He hit them in the mid-range and from deep scoring 21 points in their win today.
McGuire was really impressive handling the ball and creating in transition. In the open floor, he can get to the rim or pull-up and hit a 15’ jumper. He’s also got some bounce to him, helping on the boards as a rebounder and defender. Would be a nice fit for a small school 3/4 who can provide a ton of shooting ability.
Gage said he already has some initial interest coming from GLIAC schools including Grand Valley State who was on hand to watch him this afternoon.
Laravia Draws Three Offers
On Wednesday night, Jacob Laravia, the 6’7 forward from Lawrence Central (IN), was excellent and pulled in 21 points in the first half of a win over Ohio Crossover. Today, he again went off and had 28 points and in doing so, helped to secure himself a few offers. Hillsdale offered earlier in the day and they were followed by offers from Indianapolis and Southern Indiana.
It’s not a surprise based on his play as he’s been physical and dominant on both ends and coaches are loving his versatility and handles on the perimeter, a perfect fit for a DII four-man. However, he’s also had a few colleges at the DI level taking notes with Green Bay and SIU-Edwardsville taking a look today in their second game. So far, so good for the emerging prospect this week.
Wiggins, Williams Impress For GPP
Sitting and watching Grand Park 2019 Tempo earlier today, I walked away impressed with the play of both Ryan Wiggins and Andrew Williams, two under-the-radar players in the 2019 class.
Wiggins, a 6’6 post from Brownsburg (IN), looked as good as maybe we have ever seen him. Knocking down threes and showing off good post moves, Wiggins proved he was trying to be in the mix for one of the better small school bigs in the class. His ability to shoot has really improved and if he is going to be given those chances during games, that opens up a whole new avenue for his potential production.
As for Williams, the 6’0 guard out of Heritage Christian (IN), he was one of the best we have seen so far this live period at attacking the rim. He’s really aggressive but very finesse and can see spaces and lanes easily and get to them pretty quick. Nothing super special about his game but he executes it so well and has that effectiveness where he’s always going to have production every game.
