Peach Jam Preview
The pinnacle of our summer sport is Peach Jam. Twenty-four of the best NIKE teams converge upon the icy North Augusta’s Riverview Park Activities Center in search of the Peach Jam Championship. Past winners include: Boo Williams, All-Ohio Red, MoKan, Team Texas, Gauchos.
NBA players litter the old Peach Jam rosters. Derrick Rose, Kemba Walker, Jared Sullinger, Lamar Odom, Elton Brand Ron Artest, etc. all played in AAU’s biggest event.
A team from Tennessee advanced to the final game just twice this decade. Team Penny lost Sunday in 2014 and Memphis YOMCA dropped the Peach Jam final in 2011.
Competing in EYBL 17u division is Bluff City Legends 17u out of Memphis. Woodz Elite 17u (Arkansas) did start Jason Jitoboh, but he broke his foot in April and will not play. CP3 runs out Antavion Collum (PrepHoops #3) of Tennessee Prep and UPlay Canada features three Hamilton Heights Christian Academy players. They are Thomasi Gilgeous-Alexander, Wheza Panzo, and Tre Edwards. All three were Class of 2019 until recently. They are now 2018 players headed to prep schools outside of Tennessee.
James Wiseman| 7’0” F | East/Bluff City (#1 Overall)
Widely considered a top 5 player in the entire 2019 class, James Wiseman will need to be great for Bluff City to emerge victorious in the ferocious field.
Chandler Lawson | 6’9” WF | ??/Bluff City Legends (#2 Overall)
Since Thanksgiving 2017 Chandler and Big James have won 39 of 47 basketball games together including a district championship, region championship, and state championship. Their success vaulted Penny Hardaway into the University of Memphis coaching job. Can Chandler tug away the pair’s first Peach Jam title? Chandler features a bizarre FTrt (FTA/FGA) of 73.8%. Put another way. For every 100 shot attempts Chandler takes in EYBL matches he gets 73 free throw attempts!
Keishawn Davison | 5’10” PG | Oakland/Bluff City Legends (#21 Overall)
In his first year with the Bluff City Legends, Keishawn really found a niche. In fact, Keishawn is the best outside shooter on a team stuffed with frontcourt stars. Davison doesn’t get the touches he is accustomed to. He does make his touches count though. When teams try to rattle the taller, more halfcourt-friendly Legends Davison’s handle will be integral.
Malcolm Dandridge | 6’9” F | East (#6 Overall)
Most of the Bluff City Legends are uncommitted. Malcolm is locked up (verbally) for the Memphis Tigers. Rebounding is important for the Legends and Dandrige completes a fantastic frontline.
Mark Freeman | 5’9” PG | ??/Bluff City Legends (Formerly #5 Overall in 2018)
Mark Freeman decommitted from LIU-Brooklyn and elected to reclassify to 2019. With Bluff City Freeman leads the team in assists per and provides a maturity.
