Top 17U Scorers from The Finale
This list is from the games I was able to personally watch in the 17U bracket! Each player on this list was very consistnet in their scoring throughout the weekend.
Jarius Hicklen 2019 Crab5 Elite Wing
Hicklen is a talented overall scorer that can do a bit of everything from the Wing. He has a swagger to his scoring. At his best, he has some room to create for his silky mid-range jumper. Hicklen also thrived in transition running to the hoop.
Caruis Key 2019 Crab5 Select Point Guard
Key ran the offense well at the Point Guard spot. He found ways to score at all three levels using his athleticism and skill set to create problems for opponents. The physical strength Key has allowed him to bully his way through down low. Key as a problem all weekend long for teams with the ball in his hands.
Jacob Thionnet 2019 Team Unity Wing
Thionnet is a force on the offensive end for Team Unity. He loves the game of basketball and you can tell by the way he plays the game. The versatility he has of being able to score in the post or pop out and shoot from three-point range makes him tough to handle. He also has a solid handle at 6’5. Another thing that adds to his value is his competitive motor. Thionnet is going to be a steal for the NCAA Division II that lands his talents.
Shemarri Allen 2019 Oklahoma Power Wing
Allen made his name known this weekend showing off his freak athleticism. He drives it strong to the basket with his goals set on putting players through the rim. Within five minutes of watching him he put his opponent on a poster. Allen is going to be a prospect that could blow up over the next year with EAI Academy.
Shayon Jaylon 2019 OnPoint Hoops Wing
Jaylon scored the ball from all three levels using his lanky 6’4 build. He is good at creating mismatches with the ball in his hands or slashing to the hoop. Jaylon is going to be a good small college Wing because he can also defend.
Syrus Grisby 2019 Teamwork Forward/Wing
Grisby put on a show this weekend at The Finale. He played some of his best ball of the grassroots season. Grisby has slimed down allowing him to drive better to the rim. The improved quickness of Grisby made him a big mismatch for teams that had to play a Post on him because of his size. He could either back the smaller man down or blow by the faster one.
Patrick Garrett 2019 Game Changer Hoops Wing
Garrett scored the ball at a high level this weekend in so many different ways. The great part about Garrett is he does not have to have the ball to be effective and find openings. That said he can create with the ball in his hands when he needs to for his team. Garrett is flying way under the radar considering his talents on both ends of the floor. He is athletic and a true “game changer.”
Shemar Smith 2019 Team Griffin Forward/Wing
Smith had a stellar weekend collecting many offers from his performances on the floor. The athleticism he has at 6’6 will translate to him being able to score the ball at a high rate at the next level. The biggest thing that caught my eye about Smith is how much he has improved his three-point shooting. Don’t be shocked if Smith goes JUCO and ends up being a Mid Major plus, High Major player out of JUCO.
Brendan Laidley 2019 Yukon Impact Wing
Laidley found ways to score the ball for Yukon Impact on the Wing. The jumper of Laidley was falling early, which helped him find his rhythm. Laidley has good size at 6’5 making him a mismatch problem for most of the smaller guards that attempted to guard him. He is a high volume shooter that thrives shooting three-pointers or getting to the basket.
