Recruiting Notebook: West Coast High Academic
We recently attended the West Coast Elite Chicago High Academic Showcase. There were a lot of talented prospects that are hearing from colleges at a variety of levels. Here we dive into that with our recruiting notebook from the event!
PG Luke Scheffers (St. Charles North – 2020)
Current Ranking: #51
Travel Team: Fundamental U
Scheffers shot lights out at the camp. The rising junior is in communication with Cleveland State and Western Illinois. Also garnering some Ivy League interest. Recently took a visit to Cleveland State.
SF Jayden Johnson (Batavia – 2020)
Current Ranking: #10
Travel Team: Fundamental U
Johnson was the top prospect at the camp with his ability to shoot it and score. No offers as of yet, but we expect that to change in July. The top 10 prospect has heard from quite a few programs in June including Drake, Stanford, Miami (OH), William & Mary, Virginia, Iowa, Western Illinois, Southern Illinois, Eastern Illinois, Tulsa, Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He took a visit to Wisconsin-Milwaukee in June where he was impressed.
SF Connor Kochera (St. Viator – 2020)
Current Ranking: #42
Travel Team: Fundamental U
This versatile wing brings a lot of skill and intangibles to the table. His recruitment is starting to pick up hearing from Brown, Yale, and Harvard. He has also reached out to Bucknell and Colgate. Cleveland State is the school recruiting him the hardest. He went to their elite camp. Northern Illinois is also showing early interest.
PG Nolan Niego (Lyons Township – 2019)
Current Ranking: #107
Travel Team: Chicago Lockdown
Niego had a strong showing at the event drilling jumpers all over. He tells us he is hearing from some Ivy League schools like Penn. Also visited DePauw and Washington University in St. Louis. These are the top two he is considering right now. Other schools in the mix include Emory, Rochester, University of Chicago, and Grinnell.
PF Spencer Boehm (New Trier – 2019)
Current Ranking: #36
Travel Team: Fundamental U
Boehm is one of the better power forwards remaining in the state. He is down to Dartmouth and Columbia who are the two heavy favorites right now. Sources close to the situation tell us that Dartmouth has the edge at this point and a commitment could happen sometime in July.
PG JR Cison (St. Viator – 2019)
Current Ranking: #67
Travel Team: Fundamental U
Cison is a tough and competitive guard that can pass and shoot. He is getting a lot of D2 and D3 interest that includes Benedictine, St. Cloud State, Quincy, Augustana, NYU, and Rochester. D1’s to reach out have been Elon and Loyola (MD).
SF Sam Silverstien (New Trier – 2019)

Cannon is a solid point guard that is becoming a shooting threat. He has been talking to University of Chicago and UW-Oshkosh.
C Isa Maguire (Northfield Mount Hermon – 2019)
Current Ranking: Out of State
Travel Team: Fundamental U
Maguire is a high academic prospect that has a lot of athleticism on the interior. He is looking to hear from more Patriot and Ivy League schools. Right now North Dakota is his only offer.
PG Will King (Glenbrook South – 2019)
Current Ranking: #119
Travel Team: All-In Braverman
King is a jumbo combo guard that is a lights out shooter and good passer. Lawrence is the school showing the most interest in his services at this stage. Kenyon College was impressed with him at the camp and reached out. Lewis has been out to see him. St. Norbert’s is another school that he has talked with.
