Prospect Spotlight: Kyler Terashima (2019)
Mountain View’s 5-foot-9 point guard Kyler Terashima is heading into his summer confident that he can turn some heads, and hoping he can play well in front of the right people.
With some strong defense and a steady jumper, he might just do that.
“My strength as a player is just to play tough defense and knock down shots when I’m open,” said Terashima, who is playing with Idaho Select 17U this summer.
“I need to work on knowing how to read the defense, when to attack and when to find the open man, just things like that.”
As a junior with the Mavericks, Terashima’s job was to run the second team’s offense. And next season, he’ll look to take on a more primary role.
“My role was to come off the bench, run the offense with the subs and just keep the same energy as the starters would,” said Terashima.
“Last year was a good learning experience and I’ll take that into next year and hopefully expand on that, and be a good leader for my team.”
Now, with Idaho Select, he’s hoping to take his existing skill-set, hone that, and show college coaches what he’s capable of.
“I played pretty good in the spring, and our team was pretty good,” said Terashima.
“I think I’m flying a little bit under the radar, I’m hoping come July and heading into my high school season, I can get on some radars.”
He added: “The ultimate goal is to get a scholarship. I’m just going to go out there and have mental focus, and show the coaches how I can play and hopefully get some interest.”
