Continue ReadingFishers had played well down the late stretch of the season but would have needed to beat Carmel for the first time in the last six opportunities. But, if they were going to do it, this would have been the year. Cam Wolter came out looking like a DIvision I commit, attacking the rim with spin moves and a soft touch around the rim but Carmel was able to stay with it and had the game tied leaving the first quarter. Then, Carmel went on a huge run scoring on 6 straight possessions, led by Garrett Covington, and had a 19-0 run before Fishers was able to catch their breath.
Fishers made a run in the second half and got it within 12 after Lance Dollison was able to get going. However, that was the problem with Fishers in this game, they struggled to get anything going offensively outside of Wolter in the first half and Dollison in the second half. Five other Tigers combined for the 16 other points scored in the game. Carmel was too much on the defensive end and on the offensive end they continued to draw fouls on Fishers, putting them at the line. Carmel got the Sectional Championship win with a 67-49 victory over Fishers on Saturday night.
Player of the Game:
Garrett Covington – 6’4 SF – Senior
Carmel had been playing a lot of low scoring contests in Sectionals but this was flipped around a bit when Garrett Covington was able to score on four straight possessions in the second quarter and scored nine points. Before this run, Fishers was only down 14-11 and had played really well to this point. Covington’s run was extended by his teammates to six straight possessions. That basically put the game out of reach for Fishers. The senior transfer was excellent in this game and scored from all areas of the floor. His control of the game early was impressive.
