Continue ReadingRound 3 is next and the final step before reaching next week’s Top 28 in Lake Charles. With the exception of a 9 seed in Class C and a 10 seed in Class 1A, these three classes have the Top 8 seeds left to do battle in Round 3. Here we will show each match-up, a player to watch, and who we expect to win (underlined)!
Class C
9 Gibsland Coleman vs 1 Elizabeth – Elizabeth has been on a run this season and look for it to continue.
Player to Watch: Kolby Friday (6’4 G/F, Elizabeth, 2016)
5 New Living Word vs 4 Starks – NLW has been on a tear lately but Starks has been consistent throughout the season.
Player to Watch: Rashaan Proctor (6’0 PG, NLW, 2016)
6 Jehovah-Jireh vs 3 Summerfield – JJCH has had a great run with their youth but this may be the end.
Player to Watch: Donald Johnson (6’2 PG, JJCH, 2018)
7 Simpson vs 2 Atlanta – Atlanta has had their sights on the Top 28 all season, will be tough to stop.
Player to Watch: Lashard Powell (5’11 G, Atlanta, 2017)
Class B
8 Stanley vs 1 Simsboro – 101st match-up between the two according to Darren Jackson (@iamdbjackson) via Twitter where each team has won 50.
Player to Watch: Zachary Taylor (6’0 G, Simsboro, 2016)
5 Midland vs 4 Zwolle – Zwolle is one of the more storied programs in LHSAA history for small schools.
Player to Watch: Dagan Patin (F, Midland, 2017)
6 Weston vs 3 Anacoco – Anacoco had a tough round 2 game but looks to get back to the Top 28.
Player to Watch: Will Reese (6’4 SF, Anacoco, 2016)
7 Grace Christian vs 2 Fairview – Stopping Fairview may be too much to ask of Grace Christian this season.
Player to Watch: Brennan Maddox (6’2 G, Fairview, 2016)
Class 1A
8 Hamilton Christian vs 1 Lafayette Christian – LCA has been one of the top teams in Louisiana this year, should roll here.
Player to Watch: Galen Alexander (6’6 F, LCA, 2017)
5 Varnado vs 4 Arcadia – Arcadia hasn’t lost since starting 0-5 and won’t lose here. Varnado has been terrific this season though.
Player to Watch: Travious Fielding (6’0 PG, Arcadia, 2016)
6 Grambling Lab vs 3 Southern Lab – Both teams have had great seasons with young talent but Grambling gets a slight nod here.
Player to Watch: Tylan Dean (6’0 PG, Gambling, 2017)
10 Tensas vs Northwood-Lena – Lena’s size provides a tough match-up for anyone. Tensas has had a great run with guard play.
Player to Watch: Mike Layssard (6’9 F/C, Lena, 2016)
