-Player of the Year-
Alex Barcello 6’2” 2017 Corona del Sol – The Aztecs point guard and leader Alex Barcello earns first team all-state honors for the second straight year. The junior standout was a part of a two-headed monster in the CDS backcourt that helped his team to the top of the rankings for the later part of the regular season.
-First Team-
Chris Bowling 6’7” 2016 Gilbert – The senior forward saw his team reach the quarterfinal for the third straight year, leading them all the way to the semis in his final outing. Though the Tigers started rough, they were good throughout the 2016 calendar year and he was a big part. His ability to score and defend multiple positions made him on of the most versatile standouts in Division-I.
Jay Green 6’5” 2016 Mountain Ridge – Green had a spectacular season in his only one as a Mountain Lion. The 6’5” senior was one of the most dominant slashers in the entire state and led his team to a #7 final regular season ranking. His athleticism combined with his size and ability to get to his opponent’s hip made him one of the top performers in all of Arizona basketball.
Tommy Kuhse 6’1” 2016 Mountain View – Kuhse was as important to his team as any player in the state. The senior playmaker led the Toros to a #6 final regular season rankings and to the state tournament quarterfinals. In most games he either scored or assisted on the majority of his team’s field goals.
Saben Lee 6’2” 2017 Corona del Sol – Lee was the second part of Corona’s two-headed monster in their backcourt. After playing sparingly as a sophomore, Saben emerged as one of the top players in all of Arizona, often leading his team in scoring and steals. Without him, the Aztecs dropped their quarterfinal game to Sunnyslope showing just how important he was to the team’s success.
